I have been searching this forum on info for Paraordnance 1911 and what I have found is not good. I have read posts about hammers falling when slide is racked, broken slides is this normal for 1911 pistols or is para a low quality pistol?

Any advice would be appreciated as I was looking to purchase one.

I have four Para's...two blue and two stainless and I like them. You could buy the frames and build a gun. I did that also, Para frames with all colt parts. Sold the frames and kept the parts for another build using SS frames, someday.

I am having the same soul search. I ordered the Task Force Afghanistan Para in May and am still waiting for it. This pistol has tied up $850 of my hard earned money for 7 months and all I hear are negative comments on this forum about them. I am debating pulling chute and cancelling my order but I don't want to miss out on a cool "souvenir" of my time with the CF.

Yep thats all my .45 is a souvenir... A f**king expensive souvenir.

as I said before my .45 never had an issue when it comes to stopages. The .40 on the other had are f**king junk.

Everything else about it is junk, Rail machined crooked ( on my pistol and 3 others I have talked to from the same order), Cheap finish, Lousy mags and the cheapest case I have ever seen that causes wear on the cheap finish....

But yeah best $1000 gun I have ever seen... and Recce21 wait until North silva adds there charges ... Not so much a 850$ anymore...

My TT-33 from 1935 has a better finish and Mags... lol....

All Para could say is well buy our 45$ baseplate and send the frame back.... NFL....

Sooooo you're saying cancel then? LOL.

But seriously, as someone who ordered and spent the money, is it worth it? Me and my family could seriously use the money elsewhere if it is not worth it. I have lots of souvenir's anyways if that's the case.

Well if you dont plan to use the rail, holster your gun, and Keep it as a safe queen then get it. unless its a .40 then run...

I had enough adjustment on my x400 to sight it in.... but still its a ##### that my rail is crooked...

I have a Para Ord LTC 1911 9mm and I love it, not a single problem.
You can get people saying the S&W is great and is bad, you can get people saying they love colt and others that say its crap. U can always find someone that says both sides it all depends on what you want.
I hate glocks myself but that doesn't mean other people don't have good times with theirs and love them.

Jwirecom109 I agree with you but when a special order pistol sucks, and the special order pistol sucks for more then 6 out of 50 produce, and even the american special order boarder patrol has pages apound pages of f**king problem ( .40 cal ) .. Then yeah Para f**king sucks balls...

i've seen the front sight take a trip to nowhere all on it's own- and it was a para 45 double stack- never seen that happen to a colt , or even a rinco for that matter

Just got the "GI Expert."
For an entry level weapon, I have no complaints so far. Only put 100 rounds of commercially reloaded American Eagle ammunition through it, but it functioned flawlessly.

I have the same. For an entry level it does well. Although it has had some strange stoppages, that I'm not 100% sure to be ammo related (my own reloads, could be the ammo, but it works fine in my glock). It's never had any hiccups with factory ammo, which is the only thing I'd use in any sort of "Has to work" scenario. I'd say I'm up around 4-500 rounds, and other than the mentioned issues, I'm happy.

I had an SSP. Not a bad handgun in terms of reliability (ran great out of the box) and accuracy (but only after I replaced the rear sight on it). My beefs were with their 'customer service' department talking head. I was told I didn't know how to sight a pistol properly which is why it shot low. No explanation was given to me when I asked why I didn't have the same problem with my Sig, Glock or Colt pistols. The next issue I had was with the slide peening after two hundred rounds to a burr where it can cut your thumb. I was told that the peening was 'normal'. No explanation was given to me on why my 20 year old Colt didn't exhibit such peening after thousands of rounds. After a few calls I was told that if it 'got worse' to call them again. Every call them to try to get some satisfaction resulted in Wedgies. I finally had enough and traded it at a pretty hefty loss. The only good thing that came about from my owning a Para product is I learned the true meaning of "Paranormal"......YMMV.

Para LTC

I have a LTC Para 45 acp and have had it now for over 3 years and not a problem with factory or reloaded ammo. I like the gun and bought it because it was made in Canada, now i don't know if i would by another since they have moved South.

Family first,

if $$ are scarce .. cancel your order.

If not, cancel your Para order and buy a STI Spartan in 45 from Armco.

You will never regret buying a Spartan.

I have a para P16-40. The first batch of bullets I cast myself I didn't size properly and those gave me feeding issues but I rectified the situation and having put 2000+ rounds of properly constructed ammo through it I have seen two malfuntions, when A limp wristed coworker tried it out. I will say the finish seems to wear abnormally fast but I can't and won't complain about the quality of the gun.

FYI

I purchased a used .45 LTC Para from Gunnar at Armco earlier this year. It's my favourite .. great shooter no problems.

Loads ? always Sellier and Bellot 230 grain.

I bought a Para once...

... and this is what it looked like out of the box:

Notice the finish peeling under the slide?

I returned it without having fired a shot. I suppose it might have shot well, but I figured that if their QA missed the obvious deficiencies in the finish, then any hidden mechanical issues would be beyond them.

I exchanged it (and a coupla hundred bucks more) for a STI Ranger II, and its been a pleasure (despite the necessary "tuning" that I'm told every 1911 requires).

My next acquisition will be a long slide 45, and I think I'll stick with STI.

Ouch, that's a pretty shizzy finish. Time will tell how mine holds up, but it's just as fine as anything else so far. Like anything, there's good ones and bad. It's how the company stands behind their stuff that makes the difference, unfortunately, from what I hear Para, is pretty useless on service issues.
