Finished deer hunting in record time, couldn't be happier

I look forward to hunting season for whitetails like Kids do for Christmas morning. This year opening day, I took my wife out to a ground blind I had set up for her, hoping she would see some deer on a hardwood ridge, as the shooting would be close and she could use a very comfortable ground blind. I had my stand set up in a swampy area rather nearby with lots of deer sign, hoping for a nice shot at a big buck. I had given my wife a whistle to blow if she got in trouble, needed help or rather jokingly, if she filled both of our tags. Within an hour and a half I heard the whistle blowing continuously and then found out why, she ended our hunt already by shooting both deer and needed, my buck tag, my knife, my back muscles and my deer processing skills. I think I was happier than she was .............this being her first buck.

So now I am looking forward to next year...........so is she !!!

Not necessarily.

What if he shot a doe on her "doe tag" and they were now party hunting on his "buck tag"? That would explain this hunt and would be perfectly legal, at least in the part of Ontario I live. :)

But Marty, seriously, I wouldn't even address questions like these - especially the ones where the photograph shows a deer or elk or moose..ect without a tag on it.

In fact, this year, all my game photos will not include the tag in the photo...:eek:

Yes, she shot both, I didnt shoot anything. She tagged the Doe as she had an antlerless tag and she used my buck only tag on the little buck, - all legal. The deer were both tagged and witnessed before being moved or dressed and immediately after the quick photo's as the deer were only 30 meters apart. She shot both, so party hunting, she filled both tags and used her whistle to let me know to stop hunting for my buck.

No sir. You read it again. Unless something drastically has been changed in the regs, "Mid Ontario" has always had an archery season. He could have tagged out with her tag during the archery season.

All I am saying is your blanket statement of, "...there should have been two" is incorrect. You simply jumped to conclusion, like a lot of other folks do here from time to time. No worries. :)

^^^Agreed.....but I was trying to make a subtle point....apparently too subtle.

The point is that when you post ANYYTHING hunting related, you had better make sure your ducks iare in a row.....fellow hunters aren't the only ones reading these threads.

What it *looks* like with the "opening day, short end, wifes first, needed my tag" stuff is that she was an unlicensed hunter doubling the chance of hubby's success.....and what it *looks* like can get you in trouble. Add to that two photos with no tags visible and it *could* lead to trouble for the OP.

Now *I* don't believe the above to be true, but unfortunately when it comes to stuff like this, the anti's WILL see it in the worst possible way...and then (unfairly) we are labled as guilty and it is up to *us* to prove our innocence. Now the addition of the second pic clears up a bunch, but you can't be too carefull.

Hell, a few hunting sites have banned pictures of un-tagged animals specifically *because* of the anti's trolling and causing grief for both the hunters and the site.

Just think is all I'm saying.

Yes, she was shooting a model 99F in .300 savage I bought off Maddog on the site a few years ago. I just mounted a Bushnell scopechief VI 1.5-4 on it I also got off the site a while ago. She really likes this gun. Actually, she wont allow anyone else to use it.

Haha, I've finished a couple nice bucks off myself with that very same gun!

Kinda miss it now? She wanna sell it back to me? Doubt I couldn't pry it from her now could I?

Believe it or not that was my very first Savage 99 she's got in her hands, look what they've done to me now.

Tell her I'm very happy to see it's still putting meat on the pole!
