I had a question about wearing a Blaze orange during gun season. If Im wearing a backpack that isnt Blaze Orange can I get a ticket even if I am wearing a jacket which is blaze orange? Would the game guy think Im obscuring the orange with the pack? Also how picky are they on the colour of the Blaze orange? There seems to be alot of variance here. This is hunting in Ontario. Thanks

Ive been told by COs you can be ticketed.

I just bought a cheap vest and wrap it around the pack. You'll notice the straps go nicely through the arm holes in most cases.

Also, I dont quite understand your question regarding blaze orange. I dont notice all that much of a difference in the various "blaze orange" items I own.

Id say if you were to be given a ticket for that, the guy is a knob. What a stupid rule orange clothing is to hunt anyways.

Yeah I dont make the rules.. Today when I got my temporary permit I was told that because I already have an Outdoors card with the fishing licence that hasnt expired that because they wont issue the new combined Hunting/Fishing card until the end of the year, that If I go out and have both licences on me at the same time, I can get fined

So any bright orange is ok? There does seem to be alot of variation here on colour, from reddish orange to light orange and several companies all calling it Blaze orange. Is just wearing Orange enough for the tree cop to leave you alone?

I dont want to get tazered in the swamp.

Here is the regulation wording in Ontario.

"A hunter orange garment and head cover must be worn. The
hunter orange garment must cover a minimum of 2,580 square cm (400 square inches) above the waist and be visible from all sides."

So yes, you will get a ticket if it cover your back completely. So use a small backpack.

For the Blaze orange, quote from regulation again.

"Hunter orange colour standards are generally consistent across North America. Manufacturers can provide information regarding clothing compliance with this standard."

For you, I suggest a brown and white back pack and have your rattlin antlers sticking out the top of it! :D

And hunt near a bunch of trigger happy Tavor shooters!

What does the actual legislation say? I believe there is a certain amount that has to be visible and if your bambi back pack covers too much of it - tagged!

Crap - I type too slow!

I have a jacket I made that is a Deerskin, that way I can sneak up on the animals as I will be "one with nature" :p. I will also crawl on all fours to be extra sneaky. Does this sound ok? :p

Meanwhile back to orange backpacks so I dont add more revenue to the Government...

I read objections to having to wear hunter's orange. With the increasing numbers of hunters entering the small areas that are huntable, it is a real safety item. I myself have had a few instances where the "wandering" hunter(s) have shot at me when I was doing a nature need. They shot at the noise even though I was within 20 feet of the truck i drive. I had to take off the jacket to do the necessary and only had the hat on. I realize now I should have hung my jacket in a tree but really don't think it would have made a difference.

Whatever happened to " identify the target before aiming the gun"? Much better to be safe than sorry.

I'm not sure its a real problem. With most day backpacks your shoulders, arms, some of your back beside the backpack and below the backpack will still show - therefore your blaze orange will be visable from all sides. Nevertheless, I velcro'ed a piece of blaze orange material to the backpack but more to make sure I was seen than to meet the reg.

Do you think the people who shoot at anything that moves even notice if you are wearing Blaze orange? Didnt the last lady who got shot in Ontario out walking her dog, wasnt she wearing a bright red jacket?

The fellow shot in Saskatchewan on Monday was wearing red, one of the regulation high-visibility colours and was shot at a range of about 200 yards.

I'm not sure how much the blaze orange I wear improves my safety, but I suppose it does somewhat, and since I think that, I bought an orange backpack, too.

The wording of the Sask regulations says I have to wear the required colours from the waist up, but it fails to specify that you can't strap equipment of a different colour over the garment - belt, gun sling, fanny pack, back pack.

Hey, there's the Fun Sponge!
I have a camo back pack that folds out into a chair, and I carry it like a suitcase and my gun in the other. I don't give up any orange coverage. My jacket is completly orange.

And I hunt my own place. Not very trusting I guess.

I really doubt you would get a ticket, but if you had evidence you had way more than the required surface area in orange, it would be a fun case in court.Same as if he said your orange wasn't legal orange.

I found a blaze orange backpack. LLbean has one for $49 all in Blaze orange. Its cheaper than a ticket I guess.

someone stupid enough to shoot some one at any distance and not be sure of there target should be hung for pure stupidity, obviously these are the same people gut shooting wildlife because there just shouldering and shooting and have no care in what there doing and no idea what there doing,
stupid people,
darwin is not suppose to take the innocent, just the stupid.
