How Littlelebowski Got Shot

"Apparently, one of the passengers had taken the Kimber pistol from the range bag while sitting behind the victim. Outside the victim’s field of view, the passenger had inserted a loaded magazine, and cycled the action with his index finger resting on the trigger, discharging the weapon."

That's the last time Cleetus goes to the shooting range. Eeesh. I almost want to blame the victim a bit for bringing this "friend" along.

Well, Bubba is going to have to find his own way home from the range next time! What an IDIOT!!! What could possibly have possessed a person of even rudimentary intelligence to insert a loaded magazine into a pistol inside a vehicle, unless he intended to shoot someone!?? I would like to know what happened to the perpetrator, because he should either be jailed for attempted murder (unless he is truly that stupid), or put into a pysch ward for being terminally stupid and brainless.

Kahlil Gibran: “The Prophet

...Oftentimes have I heard you speak of one who commits a wrong as though he were not one of you, but a stranger unto you and an intruder upon your world.
But I say that even as the holy and the righteous cannot rise beyond the highest which is in each of you. So the wicked and the weak cannot fall lower than the lowest which is in you also.
And as a single leaf turns not yellow but with the silent knowledge of the whole tree, so the wrong-doer cannot do wrong without the hidden will of you all. Like a procession you walk together towards your God-Self.
You are the way and the wayfarers. And when one of you falls down he falls for those behind him, a caution against the stumbling stone. Ay, and he falls for those ahead of him, who, though faster and surer of foot, yet removed not the stumbling stone. And this also, though the word lie heavy upon your hearts: The murdererd is not unaccountable for his own murder, and the robbed is not blameless in being robbed. The righteous is not innocent of the deeds of the wicked, and the white-handed is not clean in the doings of the felon.
Yea, the guilty is oftentimes the victim of the injured. And still more often the condemned is the burden bearer for the guiltless and unblamed. You cannot separate the just from the unjust and the good from the wicked; For they stand together before the face of the sun even as the black thread and the white are wowen together. And when the black thread breaks, the weaver shall look into the whole cloth, and he shall examen the loom also.
If any of you would bring to judgment the unfaithful wife, let him also weigh the heart of her husband in scales, and measure his soul with measurements. And let him who would lash the offender look unto the spirit of the offended. And if any of you would punish in the name of righteousness and lay the axe unto the evil tree, let him see to its roots; And verily he will find the roots of the good and the bad, the fruitful and the fruitless, all entwined together in the silent heart of the earth.
And you judges who would be just. What judgment pronounce you upon him who though honest in the flesh yet is a thief in spirit? What penalty lay you upon him who slays in the flesh yet is himself slain in the spirit? And how prosecute you him who in action is a deceiver and an oppressor, Yet who also is aggrieved and outraged? And how shall you punish those whose remorse is already greater than their misdeeds?
Is not remorse the justice which is administered by that very law which you would fain serve?
Yet you cannot lay remorse upon the innocent nor lift it from the heart of the guilty.
Unbidden shall it call it call in the night, that men may wake and gaze upon themselves. And you who would understand justice, how shall you unless you look upon all deeds in the fullness of light? Only then shall you know that the erect and the fallen are but one man standing in twilight between the night of his pigmy-self and the day of his god-self, And that the corner-stone of the temple is not higher than the lowest stone in its foundation...

Every time I have been seriously injured, thankfully few (and never a gunshot wound) it always seems to me everyone around me panics more than I do and I have to get them to calm down so they can help me. Seems the victim did the same, I hope I can too if I ever (pray to God never) get shot.

Not even REMOTELY close to the situation above, but there are plenty of times where training with firearms in a vehicle is appropriate.

I hope the retard was tried for attempted negligent homicide or whatever charge is appropriate.

I dont see that friendship lasting much longer. Getting shot isnt as fun as it sounds. Luckily when I got shot in the toe it was very minor. It burned like hell though and I feel bad for the people who had to watch me beat the dip-tard who shot me.

That's how Sgt Barry Sadler died, in a cab in Guatemala. When it comes to guns, if you're not 100% in the "on" position at the time, bad things happen fast. It's Murphy's show.

I am so thankful that in Canada that everyone with a PAL are educated with ACT and PROVE. As much as I hate a lot of parts of our Firearms laws, basic training make sense in this case. I hope that I never will get shot by some dumb ass like Littlelebowski did. The funniest thing is that in BC I can't even own a body armor against these perpetrators on the range.

One thing I know the "friend" who shot the guy can make up for the shot. Either Littlelebowski gets to shoot the "friend" once or a life time of free beers.

I frequently see things at the range from PAL holders that show a distinct lack of "education." In my experience, the CFSC hasn't made a difference in what I see at the range.

You're absolutely right, training does make sense, and the CFSC is the most basic training there is. Regardless, being safe still requires a commitment to safety and an awareness of their own actions that is sadly lacking in many shooters.

it is interesting though, as it notes in the article, that the arm wasn't at very least severely mangled or half blown off especially since it was hollow point ammunition. perhaps something to do with the close range? Whatever it is its extremely lucky on his part.

Since it was the victoms own firearm, it makes me think of the many times I have taken co-workers shooting. It would seem as though the friend doesn't have experience with firearms judging by his actions. I have taken several first time shooters to the range and it always means extra vigilance and attention to ensure that they act in a safe manner as they have absolutely no training to fall back to. My simple thought is, a lock would prevent the mishandling of my firearm while it is not in my ability to be supervising it's use.
