A .22 is not only a great first gun but after getting another dozen guns over the years, my .22's are the guns I shoot the most. Cheap ammo, low recoil, low noise, limited penetration are all reasons why a .22 is very useful & versatile. Even the wife, kids & friends can comfortably shoot a .22. A "must have" rifle for all intents & purposes.
