I just received a rifle bought on here, and told it was a factory rifle.
As far as I know this caliber came in the short action (7-08). This rifle is the standard length action matt blue with a stainless barrel (20"). Soooo I guess the question is,,,,did remington make such a rifle in 7-08? I don't think so?????

factory 7-08 700's are/were all built on short actions...someone swapped a barrel into a long action...it should feed fine...but, if the barrel is long enough it's an easy rechamber to 280 AI....use that mag box room.....OK,..I see you have a 20" tube....probably came off a Model Seven....

As an aside...Remington did chamber the 257 Roberts in both long and short actions....

Does it say Remington on the barrel? Could be a custom barrel as well...I wouldn't worry about it being a long action. How does it shoot?

I don't think remmy would put a stainless barrel on a matte blue action either. Sounds like a barrel swap took place sometime in it's history.

Three months ago, I purchased a Rem700 Mountain Rifle LSS in 7mm-08. It is short action. I'm thinking as others do that yours has been re-barreled.

Do any manufacturers regularly put a stainless barrel on a blue action?

That right there would scream to me the barrel has been switched. Not that its a bad thing, if its done well.

The work is done well and it is a new remington barrel thin like the mountain model. The barrel stamping by remington sits at approx 11 oclock position, just slightly higher than normal. It's a light rifle 6.5lbs. The original intent was to use the short action for a custom build, but thats out now. Haven't made up my mind on this one yet. Just received it, test fired one round out the back door yesterday and everything is good no issues with the chamber.
I may have my 1st 7-08 here.

early Ruger M77 Mark II Target/Varmint models were also made with blue actions stainless barrels....I also owned a Savage 110V in 22-250 that had a long blued action and a 26" stainless heavy barrel....about 15 years ago.

I have a couple kimbers with stainless fluted barrels on blued actions. I don't think remington has done it though.

Sounds like you got a neat little, light rifle there! Use that L/A to your advantage and start seating your bullets out farther in the case...more powder=more fun

If you are happy with what you got then all is good, but the seller flat ass lied to you if he said it was a factory rifle...
Factory parts yes..
Factory rifle no..

Worth a try ? Perhaps.

I guess it's worth a try and as said above there are some advantages to the standard length action in this caliber. The frustrating part though is, it's not what you expected and I did ask the pointed question "was this a factory rifle(because of the stainless and blued combination)" the answer I received was yes. Now this all comes from someone who sells a lot of firearms on here and has a high trader rating????????????

I know what you mean..
Two out of the last three rifles that I have bought here with wood stocks (Brno 21/22H's) had their barrel channel grossly gouged out basically ruining the stock.. Nothing was said about this by the sellers and the rifles were photoed in such a way as to not show the barrel channel..
If I were to resale those rifles I would have to take a hit for the restocking cost or sell them as a barreled actions only..
Both sellers had exemplary trading ratings..
In fact one of these sellers is posting on this very thread..
