I have two Tikka Varminter's , one in .223 and the other one in .260Rem.
I have found that they give very good accuracy for stock, factory units, but was wondering if having them both bedded would be worth the effort?
Gotta be exceedingly careful bedding them because the recoil lug is in the stock and mates to a groove in the action. If you build up the bedding too much, this defeats the recoil lug. Skim bed at most.
I went out today to test my Varmint 6.5x55..loaded up 10 rounds..shot 2 at 25..then the next 4 at 100..then my firing pin froze up..it would hit the primer ..but go click..anyway..heres the group..with a guess at a good load. oh chit forgot to put the date in..lol..it was cold today. I see no benefit to bedding.
Thanks for the input gents.
The actions don't budge with the bolts removed.
Maybe best to 'leave well enough alone'!
I've never met a stock Tikka, Sako or Savage that didn't perform well.
Your rifle have wooden stocks? If so, seal the barrel channels. Prevents a POI change in wet weather or high humidity. Any wood sealer will do.
"...my firing pin froze up..." Likely caused by oil or grease in the bolt. Clean the bolt. Then very lightly re-oil.
