Dear XCR Fans:

As usual I don't have much time to bother with these sites. We've made a lot of much need changes at Robinson Armament Co. Before I address the changes, let me put things in perspective.

Robinson Armament could have made lots of money making AR-15 knockoffs. It would have been infinitely easier for us to have just made an upper receiver which would have fixed some but not all of the shortcomings of the AR-15. Instead, we ventured to make a better battle rifle. We began with the M96. The M96 was a tough project. It had a piston drive and a better bolt and ejector. However, it still retained many flaws that were inherent in Stoner's design. Many didn't buy the M96s because they were "too expensive" or "had ugly welds". Nevertheless, the M96 was a step in the right direction.

The XCR was designed almost totally from scratch. We make or have made almost every part, pin, and spring. The goals of the XCR were very ambitious. Especially, the modularity and multi-caliber aspects. I pose this question: How many other firms have really designed anything really new from scratch? FN, Remington, Bushmaster, Colt? The answer is none of them. (I must admit that at least FN has made the P90 and that 2000 Bullpup).

The fact is that almost every "new" rifle out there is based on someone else's work. The XCR is not. It is truly unique. Yes, it borrows some concepts from other rifles, but each part had to be designed without copying anything else to get the result we wanted. In short, Robinson Armament dared to challenge the establishment with a very different rifle.

Robinson Armament's efforts should have been embraced. However, from the beginning, we have nothing but crap on the internet. I distinctly remember posts on AR-15.com shortly after I announced the XCR. The post were that it was "Vaporware". Other posts exclaimed that it would never be built or never work as promised. Such posts made it very difficult to get the XCR off the ground and made people very skeptical of the new XCR.

Other posts exclaimed that we were going out of business. It seem that the whole rifle world was against us. I have often wondered why so much negativity for a new weapon platforms? It is as though people really don't want any new platforms. Thee people claim to want the best but all they do is whine. It is no wonder to me that others don't venture out with new designs - they are shot down before they begin.

It has been just over 5 years since the first XCR shipped. The XCR was not perfect and our processes and procedures for making it have not been perfect either. When we began the XCR, we had no manufacturing experience. Not only did we come up with a new and different rifle design, we had to learn to manufacture it.

I will say that learning to make the XCR has been equally or more demanding that designing it in the first place. It has taken over 5 years to get the XCR where it is. The XCR now shoots 4 calibers (we are just finishing testing 5.45x39mm). I shoots them all well. It has the best ergonomics on the planet, and the most modularity. It is also super reliable and durable.

With this background let me explain the much needed changes.

We spent much of this year retooling our shop to make XCR parts better and faster. Concurrently, we completely revamped our quality control, not only during making parts but during assembly and final testing. Every rifle that leaves our facility now is much more thoroughly tested. There should be few if any returns needed from this point forward.

In addition to making the rifle better, we have also gone through our complete staff and made the changes necessary to improve customer service which was sorely lacking. We have a completely new staff for sales and service who are eager to help. Turn around on any service problem will be very fast. To get fast service, read on.

I'd like to post just a few more comments regarding service. Some of you will not like these comments:

First, when you call for service, be polite. If you are not polite to my staff, I guaranty you will have a pleasant experience. Remember the old saying, "You can attract more files with honey that with vinegar." If you call with an attitude, my staff has been instructed to put you on the back burner. If you are nice and polite, you will get quicker service.

Second, please read the manual carefully. I know it's boring but there's important information there. Many people do not understand that you need to set the gas correctly for function and durability. It's really quite simple - put it on the setting that throws the brass 8 to 15 feet from the rifle for any given ammo. Do not just leave the gas system on the highest setting, If you do, for some ammo it will kick like hell, throw your brass 40 feet, give you trigger slap, and damage your recoil buffer (a cheap part).

Third, please send us the following information:

Name, Address, Email and Cell number;
Serial Number;
Signed Copy of your warranty Registration found in the last pages of the Operator's Manual; and
A complete description of the problem, BE BRIEF. If you write and essay about your vast knowledge of firearms base on your long time relationship with your AR-15, we won't read it.

We will authorize the return to us of part or all of your firearm. WE DO NOT PAY FOR SHIPPING TO US.

Fourth, if you post a bunch of whiny petty negative stuff here or anywhere, I guaranty very slow service. I have made that a policy. Yes, we've made lots of mistakes with service but that is behind us.

Now for some parting comments. I am very happy with the current state of the XCR. It continues to gain in popularity. A great part of our sales are to Military and Law Enforcement professionals. Though we've got the XCR to the point where is nearly perfect, we are not stopping. We will continue to perfect the platform and add accessories. Work continues on the XCR .308. It will be finished when it is perfect and we hope that will be soon.

We appreciate those who stand by and support us. They are true patriots. We have to question the motives of those who continue to tear us down on this forum. They cannot stop us. Their petty feeble minds are easily exposed. The XCR will gain momentum until it covers the whole earth. There is no other platform like it and it is the best.

Sincerely,

Alex J. Robinson
General Manager
Robinson Armament Co.

P.S. Don't expect me to read and respond to this post. It is for your information only.

I've had a few emails that have asked me to clarify a few things.

Update on .308 and Stock. These projects are full speed ahead. Hopefully soon. They are both working but need a few tweaks. Those tweeks can take weeks or months depending on how things go. The bottom line is that we're seeing light at the end of the tunnel. THEY WILL BE DONE WHEN THEY ARE DONE.

hrmmm.... Not exactly pleasant to read, but... If I interpret that as good manners, and treating others nicely, will get faster service now... then it seems to be all good news, wrapped in some really crappy packaging.... Sorta...

Ditto. A good message wrapped in terrible terrible packaging.

I get where he's coming from. Guy's dream has been s**t on from the get go and lets face it, internet forums are full of whine. A hop to the dealer forums and you're glass is overflowing with whine. Not just whine, but disrespect and lack of manners.

He's simply saying "Be nice, and we can be nice. I don't want my employees getting yelled at every day, they're humans, too. It's hard for us to solve your problem when you can't hear you because you're screaming on the other end with the only audible word is f**k you repeated."

He's frustrated, but he should have thought this letter through. Chilled out, took a breather. Or a hug lol

What a complete douche.
Hey, Mr Robinson. #### you. Hope your customer base decides to tell you to "shove your rifle up your ass."

Wow. I won't buy one now either, after that.

I'm a sales guy; and I tell you what - if my manager went off like that, I would start putting out resumes.

Thank you Mr. Robinson, for pointing out that everyone over at AR15.com is an idiot. I suppose anyone with an AR here on the Gunnutz is too. Rest assured I will never regale your sales or service guys with my firearms knowledge or beefs, because I am just too stupid to appreciate your ingenious design and why it is priced 30~40% higher than my AR. Furthermore, I am too stupid to understand why I should have to go on a waiting list to get one of your fine rifles when half a dozen of our suppliers here can put an AR or an HK or a Swiss rifle in my hands within days or even minutes.

What a goof. If he opens up a little wider maybe he can get both feet in his mouth...

I'm not apologizing for him but he sounds like someone that may be lacking certain social skills. A smart man by any means, but lacking some necessary skills or the insight to his demeanor and how he is perceived. All that aside, the rifle isn't too bad though.

I like his attitude. He wanted to win, and still wants to win, and won't stop until he wins or dies trying.

That is a man with a mission, and I respect his type A personality. A bit harsh and brazen for those who want the car salesman treatment before buying, but this is the type of guy who gets things done. Then again, I don't blame anyone for wanting a smile and free coffee before investing a fair chunk of their hard earned money either.

However, as I see it, all he asked was for politeness and an even playing field. Nothing more and he was blunt, honest and too the point. I have no time for bullshxt dilly-dallying, I've seen enough salesman work their magic. Don't be nice, don't spice it up and if you don't like it, leave it. Even more interesting, is that he IS this blunt. He is not salesmanning and trying to kiss your ass to sell his product, he is telling you what it does, and what he offers based on the product, not the salesmanship.

This makes me want one MORE.

Who cares about his attitude, your buying the rifle not him. :redface: Chances are you will never meet him, see him or talk to him.

If I had 3 grand to spare I would buy one and a conversion in a heart beat.

He's just speaking a truth that works the same way everywhere in most of all commerce and life.

Beak off on the cop that pulls you over for a traffic infractions; see their demeanor change

Beak off on the returns counter at your department store; see where that gets you. Sure; you'll still get what you want but as efficiently?

He didn't create the old adage of "you can get more flies with honey than ****"; he's simply reminding everyone. It's true though...EVERYTHING you do in your dealings with folks runs much more smoothly and pleasantly if you remain calm and pleasant; no?

I also don't believe he called everyone at AR15.com an "idiot" as one poster put it. He simply said that there were naysayers and doomsayers in the bunch. Were there not?

Every product out there (guns, cars, stereos, etc) has had someone receive a lemon. There is no product with 100% infallability; that would violate the Law of physics and mechanical contrivance...

I've had numerous RA pieces; went bang everytme and was refreshing to own something different. They're getting there; give them a break.

New stuff comes with flaws...he's correcting them.

What an arrogant prick. I never was going to buy an xcr, and I definitely won't be buying one now. He has a real attitude coming through in that letter, and he made it sound like his product was the best thing since sliced bread.

And what LE and Military forces buy his products? Never heard of a single one using the xcr, maybe someone can clear that up for me.

I like the attitude actually. Too many people forget the customer isn't always right. He's just always the customer. That means don't #### on me I don't #### on you. That and the fact that he's striving to be the best is all i heard. If i wasn't broke i'd buy on today.

+ 1,..It is actually refreshing,..I like a little bit of attitude.

Wow... that's a strange approach to customer service. Most companies would do the opposite to put out the fire, but this guy has made it a policy to make customer service WORSE if the gripes are made public?

Someone doesn't quite understand public relations. For the health of his business, he really should hire some good PR and marketing people, and learn to keep his mouth shut and stay behind the scenes.

He gets my respect for telling it straight. I didn't detect any arrogance - just honesty and a little frustration. He never claimed his product/company is the best. He just said the industry has needed innovation and improvement. He's developed a product. It, his company, and he, are not perfect, this is what he is doing to make it better. But there are certain principles he won't compromise - like civility.

I feel for the guy. I'm quite certain his journey as a small FA manufacturer haven't been easy and he's got all he owns invested in this. All you ever hear is the negative. I run my own manufacturing business and the worst part of the job is dealing with the people - inside and out of your firm. the manufacturing is the relativley easy part. I've hung up on customers before - its not right, but we aren't there to be sh*t on. you have a problem, we'll fix it - just be respectfull.

He's not selling a service, he's selling a gun. Unless you've succesfully built your own, don't tell him how its done. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you think you know better - take all your life savings, re-mortgage your house, start your own business with your new idea and build it yourself.

So in short;
We wanted to make something of our own;
It is constantly being improved upon;
If there is a problem, there is a positive way to fix it and help.

I am still looking for the negative in this that many are already complaining about.
