Making a rear BUIS out of the stock M4 carry handle sight

if you are not using it than might as well try it, it will be lot hard to do it on a real one vs the plastic ones that was shown in the video ;)

If you want a real one Questar has 7 LMT ones in stock right now.

The mod works but it is really only good if you already have a detachable carry handle sight and want to mount optics and co-witness.

It isn't worth it per se to buy a carry handle sight to chop, because manufacturers already make a 'chop-mod' fixed rear sight(albeit with the diagonal 'reinforcement' more like anti-snag on webbing)

I will have the handle off my CQA which I will not be using since I am going with a RDS. I would like to have it co-witness my Vortex Strikefire red dot sight. I might just give it a try and see if it works. As long as the cutdown rear sight does not obstruct a lot of the Strikefire's FOV it might work.

Are the carry handles on the Norc CQA's steel, aluminum, plastic or re-processed political prisoners? ;)

You can check with a magnet. The handle is usually aluminum, but sometimes the ears of the sight are steel in my experience (with other brands)

It just occurred to me that with the chopped carry handle sight, will I have enough clearance to use the Vortex Strikefire 2x doubler assuming that I place the high AR mount as far forward on the receiver rail as possible?

yes, A non magnify red dot has infinite eye relief, ideally you want to mounted as far forward as possible. Set it up to be lower 1/3 co-witnessed, so you when you are in the hurry you can sight in by looking over your rear sight straight at your red dot.
