Hey bud this is a Firearms/hunting site if you don't like talking about legally taking game maybe you should exit before your name gets lit up in pink...other wise your just a TROLL....the hunter did NOTHING wrong...no laws broken...

The only person who broke the law was the gentleman who tamed a wild animal by feeding it and he should be charged for it too....it was his damn fault the bear died....Full Stop

According to your logic If my neighbor feeds the deer and blackies because he thinks their cute and cuddly I am no longer allowed to hunt them?......

If I knew a guy was feeding a bear, I wouldn't shoot the guy's pet. That's just me.
When I hunted, it was for food only. I don't agree with trophy hunting. but I can't do a single thing about people who do, so I mind my own buisiness, and leave those ones alone. That is just my opinion.

The hunter clearly killed the bear by legal means and now has a nice rug and a few hundred pounds of sausage meat. I don't see the problem.
Seems like you are just trying to invent a problem because some moron liked to feed predators. (Illegal in BC and likely illegal in Pennsylvania, too.)
The bear feeding moron facilitated the bears death, I guess the hunters should drop him by some bear sausage as a thank you.

A have compasion for the bear feeder, he had to learn a hard lesson. If you feed a wild animal, you accept responsibility for it forever. It's hard to see the ramifications of your actions sometimes. Give a bum a dollar, maybe he ODs. Bootleg for a kid, maybe alcohol poisoning. Race a car at a light, maybe the next light he hits a little old lady. Feed a bear, he probably won't fear humans. A bad idea when we eat everything that fits in our mouths. If I shoot and eat your dog (thought it was a cayote, honest!) whose fault is it? Yours: it was off the leash, no collar. Mine: Hey it looked legit to me.
Before people get to fired up, whats wrong with eating dog? Not your own dog, of course, but it's an animal on the menu elsewhere, fair game.
Or is it just a case of sh!t happens.
You can still be compasionate about loss, even if no-one is to be blamed.
X2. Not very sporting. Why not shoot them in cages? OOH I got it! Hunt with your mouse! Our website allows you to shoot a mechanized gun at caged animals, we send you the meat and a trophy!

I saw the Grizzly Man on the TV in a hotel room I was staying in last year. I had heard of this fellow, but until I actually watched the program, I had no idea how incredibly stupid this guy was. It was truly amazing watching and listening to him. It made me wonder if the reason why the bears never bothered eating him before was because they intuitively knew him to be bad meat.

You're right, he must be an ass because he shot a fed bear. BTW, if you were my neighbour and feeding a 900 pound bear which happened to walk under my treestand I'd still shoot it.

I really don't see how you can call the bear a trophy any more than shooting a cow in a pasture is a trophy. Shooting the bear because you want/need the meat is one thing but in this case my impression is that it was shot as a trophy ie something to show your prowess as a hunter. From comments made so far in this thread I am left with the impression that the hunter knew the bear was tame and had known so for several years..
What is interesting is that most of the people commenting would have criticized a person for road hunting but seem to be in total agreement with knowingly killing a semi domesticated bear and calling it a trophy

Let me rephrase then....
A wild bear does not get to be 900 lbs by being stupid. Frankly, a wild black bear over 400 lbs is quite large and they aren't commonly shot by hunters despite everyone claiming thier 5ft bear was 400 lbs.
A wild bear that size would have been a very old and very wise bear, and definitely aware that humans presented danger to him, and therefore would likely be quite nocturnal and difficult to hunt.
So, the reason that this old bear was in a position to be killed by a hunter was that he was habituated to being fed and the hunters had worked out his patterns and killed him. Had the idiot not habituated the bear, the hunters likely would have never seen such a big old bear during the daylight hours, unless very dedicated or very lucky.
And if the bear hadn't been hand fed, it's likely that Price would have never had an opportunity to get such a old bear.
The bears in my area are normaly around 800lbs and anoy everyeone thats yard fence ect that they break.. some people get mad enough to take pot shots at them but with the no discarge within city limits ect.. lots of people want to get ride of the bear but dont want to get into the legal trouble..
