Well, I finally have it. After reading many threads on CGN and asking many questions, i bought my first rifle today.:D:cheers:

It's a Browning A-Bolt hunter chambered in .270 Win. It is topped with an older Bushnell 3-9 x32 scope. It has a few dings, but it looks great to me!!

I picked it up at an auction, and think i did alright.

I will post some pics when I have some!:D

And I forgot the best part...when i got home my i was bracing for the worst from my wife. She asked if i saw anything, i said maybe, she asked if i bought anything, i said yes. What and how much...so i told her. then...... see, arent you glad we still rent. If we owned our own place you could not just show up at home with a new gun without discussing it with me.

SWEET!!!

Same Browning as I have ...mine made in 1988( serial # dated)..For gophers, I use 100 gr Sierras and 140 for deer. The limit of our range is 200 yards and I am very very pleased as to how it shoots. Definitely my go to gun for big game.

Now that everyone else has chimed in with their first rifles, you have to go out and buy one each of those ones.

BTW, does your part of Bantario have cartridge restrictions for big game?

"Gopher's must evaporate when struck by that ! "

Yup...mahony1977....the bullets come out about 3200 ( homeloads) and all you can see is pink mist. But sometimes you get a head or tail if you can find them.

Congratulations on your first rifle! I remember mine like it was yesterday (1973!!!). It too was a 270. I still own it with its 3rd barrel. It has sprung many offspring to fill several gun safes.

Welcome to the wonderful world of big game rifles. May you have years of enjoyment and adventures.

We get so caught up in the details of one thing or another that we forget the simple joy of lusting after and acquiring our first rifle.

I look forward to reports on its performance and first game animal.

Lucky! I hope you enjoy it!

In my mind I've spent $20'000 already and I just sent my PAL/RPAL in 6 days ago... :p So many awesome firearms out there. I can't decide what I want to buy first. AR style, pistol, or a nice tactical shotgun!?!?!? SOOOO many choices... I'm a single Father with no wife or G/F so depending on how you look at it I'm good for random purchases without the worry of having my butt verbally kicked.:p

For southern ontartio, .275 cal. For deer in these areas the only gun you can use is shotgun or muzzle-loader. Deer is the only big game down here. Once you go a little further north there are deer moose and bear. In those areas there are no calibre restrictions other than what the season dictates. i.e. bow, or rifle.

I wanted to be able to shoot coyotes and bear/moose/deer/paper with one rifle, it's my first, i want to get good at it.
