Hunt? Like hunting blueberries?I guess they do eat newborn elk and moose calves.
Biologists estimate that bears take 25-30% of the calves when they come out of their dens.
Yep - habituating a wild animal to people in an area that has active hunting is asking for the animal to get shot.
That said, if the bear's been there for 17 years then likely the locals knew about it, and which one it was, and avoided shooting it.
What cheap shot? Stop faulting hunters for hunting on a forum about hunting and I'll stop implying you're an elitist with a holier than thou attitude. Or worse, you're just trolling.
We have too many divisive people in the shooting sports as it is.
Bow hunters don't like cross bow shooters. Fudds don't care about IDPA guys. Cowboy action guys don't care if your AR gets banned, etc.
Where does it stop?
It stops when each of us stops thinking he's better than the next sportsman because of his methods and legal choices.
This was not a bear in a pen. It was a wild animal that some guy used to foolishly feed pies. It was killed on a legal hunt. End of story.
Hey bud this is a Firearms/hunting site if you don't like talking about legally taking game maybe you should exit before your name gets lit up in pink...other wise your just a TROLL....the hunter did NOTHING wrong...no laws broken...
Actually
The only person who broke the law was the gentleman who tamed a wild animal by feeding it and he should be charged for it too....it was his damn fault the bear died....Full Stop
Don't like it princess then don't read about it and get down from your moral high horse....
According to your logic If my neighbor feeds the deer and blackies because he thinks their cute and cuddly I am no longer allowed to hunt them?......![]()

if anybody should have their name lit up in pink, it would be the kid that hides behind a monitor to throw insults.
thankfully for guys like you, the internet came along and you can finally get away with it for once in your life.
pathetic.
I'd use regular swear words if this was CGN in the good ol'days when there was no swear censoring software.
This is the Hunting Forum. Like it or not, animals die when you go hunting. Well...animals die when *I* go hunting, don't know about your success.
The hunter clearly killed the bear by legal means and now has a nice rug and a few hundred pounds of sausage meat. I don't see the problem.
Seems like you are just trying to invent a problem because some moron liked to feed predators. (Illegal in BC and likely illegal in Pennsylvania, too.)
The bear feeding moron facilitated the bears death, I guess the hunters should drop him by some bear sausage as a thank you.![]()
i really could care less that the bear died, i just think it is weak sauce of the hunter. im sure many bears died today as well and i will have just as much concern for them.
how am i trying to invent a problem by stating my opinion on a message borad that i think a guy is a poor hunter?
a bit dramatic on your part, dont you think?!
You're right, he must be an ass because he shot a fed bear. BTW, if you were my neighbour and feeding a 900 pound bear which happened to walk under my treestand I'd still shoot it.![]()

I really don't see how you can call the bear a trophy any more than shooting a cow in a pasture is a trophy. Shooting the bear because you want/need the meat is one thing but in this case my impression is that it was shot as a trophy ie something to show your prowess as a hunter. From comments made so far in this thread I am left with the impression that the hunter knew the bear was tame and had known so for several years..
What is interesting is that most of the people commenting would have criticized a person for road hunting but seem to be in total agreement with knowingly killing a semi domesticated bear and calling it a trophy

You are basing your opinion on a few news stories. Maybe if you had more detailed information on exactly how the bear was hunted, and past history of the hunter, your opinion would actually have some merit. Without detailed information, your opinion is just hot air.
a bit dramatic on your part, dont you think?!
Drama? You should re-read your posts and decide who the dramatic one is.![]()
no you wouldnt.
you would meekly say hello to me and thats about it. dont kid yourself
guys like you only act tough online. in reality, you probably go out of your way to not piss off your neighbors like most normal human beings.
Feeding and baiting are 2 totally different things with totally different intentions. Pretty simple to figure it out, I think.![]()
the guy sucks at hunting and took a known easy kill. end of story.
thats my opinion. i wont change it for you.
