Hello All
i was wonder if anyone aboard could shed some light on where i could find blackpowder cannons for sale a friend and have seen some .50 cal and some .69 cal small cannons on you tube and wondering if there are available in canada for a decent price and where. We both are RPAL holders dont know what kind of licence you mite need thanks for the help

Is this what you are after? It will cost you a few $$ and not sure about import regs but know where you can buy it. Its over 500 years old and comes off a Spanish Gallion, was found in the Carribean. Not too sure how safe it is to fire and again have no clue about the legalities of owning these in Canada

Go to a machine shop and pick up some cdsm and build a couple.I used to build 50 cal ones for everybody out of 1"x.240" cdsm and they would use .429 bullets with sabots and a pinch of fffg powder with a #11 cap.

It is easy to build your own cannon or have someone with a metal lathe make one for you. To keep it legal if you have someone else make it for you, drill the fuse hole yourself at home. From what I have heard that to remain legal they have to be ignited by a fuse...no match lock, flint or percussion caps. Maybe someone else knows more about the legality's of cannon ownership. I have seen homemade cannons shot at the range... shooting it anywhere else may open a can of worms.

as to the ones at lever arms i read that their not to be used with projectiles (which i am looking for ones that do)on there website or was this just added to cover there rump is there anyone who has any first hand knowledge on this from lever arms? thanks to all that can help me in this seach (christmas is coming)

bp cannon

have one that i've used for the past year. drilled the touch hole and reamed out the bore to .50 and shoot using 20 grs FFFg on a .490 ball with a thin greased patch. very accurate (depending on how you line it up). a lot of fun and several friends now have them as well. for official note , they are for saluting purpose only. check that all parts are in the pkg. have been a few missing some bits that are easily made but it's better to get it all at the time of purchase. rgds

No license required. Not for the fuse fired ones, anyway. Considered same as a matchlock long gun, as they are not meant to be fired one-handed.

There are a couple folks that deal in them in various sizes. Brass with Class was one outfit. There are a lot available out of the US, too. No shipping issues, other than getting them to actually send the stuff.

Decent price? Be sitting when you see the prices!

Cheers

A friend of mine has got one of the cannons from cannonthunderdotcom, no idea if it's good for shooting anything but real golfballs though. If I had one of those golfball cannons, I would want to be able to shoot a lead round ball out of it at least. You might want to get a really thick wall thickness, and have no sharp internal corners inside the bore and powder chamber if you are concerned about the factor of safety, which translates into higher costs.

EDIT: Maybe a user of the larger cannons can chime in with his or her real world experiences.

I have a 1 1/2 pounder, slightly larger than golf ball bore, that I shoot lead balls or patched golfballs out of. Mine was turned from ordnance steel by a Canadian maker called Brass With Class (will show up in google). The barrel weighs about 150lbs I do believe, turned from a billet. I thought it was lighter but it seems not. Mine's turned in classic 24 pounder profile.
