Shhhhhh. We might have Albertans coming out here for our cheap deer.
Depending on where you live/hunt you can get four. I have three (archery, muzzleloader, rifle) this year so far. I am still allowed my "second tag". Which is an antlerless. Technically speaking he could take sixteen whitetails. Although that is a very crazy number for anyone to legally take. You'd probably have to be retired or take a lot of time off of work. Not to mention likely taking a couple of fawns...

in muzz and yes we where party huntingi still have "my tag" left but thats all. (buck tag)
and Wednesday Thursday Friday sunday off wach week till end of Rifle.
the other deer where taken in muzz , this Doe was the first deer of this year with Rifle.
I wasn't counting archery tags.If I was allowed to take 12 Whitetailed deer with a rifle in one location in Alberta,I could easily do it in a few days without taking any fawns.Then again,if we were allowed that many deer,and people took advantage of such a bag limit,our deer population would suffer,and the bag limit would have to be reduced very quickly.It looks as though they count on many people not using all of the tags that they could use in a year.

Well, to be fair, that's for 4 people. And you all have to be hunting together. You can't sign off on party hunting if you're not present. If you've signed off on party hunting then you can't go out by yourself if even one other of the party isn't there.
So that means 4 people would need all the time off.

If the 3rd tag is still available, it's actually possible for one person to harvest 7 deer in a year in Manitoba. But they would have to be a youth under 18. They can buy the youth tag, good for any season, plus an archery, muzzleloader, and rifle tag, plus the shotgun/muzzleloader tag, and 2nd, and 3rd deer tag for antlerless.
It would still be relatively easy to fill a dozen tags between 4 people in a few days where I hunt.If we really wanted to fill tags,we could shoot a few in the morning,then shoot a few in the evening,and wrap it all up in a weekend.In one zone that we hunt in Alberta,they were giving out three antlerless mule deer tags to everyone that was drawn,so we had 12 tags to use if we wanted to.Since we already had an elk and a moose down,we went out one afternoon and shot four deer in an hour just driving down logging roads.We could have shot more deer that day,but we didn't need any more meat,and quite frankly,we didn't want to clean any more deer that afternoon.
Party hunting has advantages,but it also has disadvantages in that some people will buy tags for the wife and teenagers,load them in a vehicle,then go out and shoot as many deer as he can.The wife and children don't even hunt,but they are present.Other people buy the wife a tag,to give them an extra chance to kill a trophy buck,after they have filled their either ### tag.In some cases the wife goes along and does not carry a gun,because quite frankly,she doesn't even know how to load it.So party hunting can just be an excuse to give certain people extra tags to use,instead of having everyone shoot their own animals.

I was under the impression that if you bought the shotgun/muzzleloader tag you could not buy a muzzleloader tag. Is that incorrect?
They are two separate seasons, with separate licenses. No issues with buying both.
He only missed 3 times on the buck - once on the doe before he outran it to the other field and made the 300 yard spine shot. Offhand no doubt.
Be careful or this will turn into another one of those "hunting ethics" threads that the unethical trolls can't stand to read and must rant on. Remeber that this is Canadian Gun Nutz - not Canadian Ethical Hunters.
Also, we all know from listening to the NDP that the only thing semi-autos are good for is killing people.

Liked the pic, that's a big doe (I took a large one two days ago, but nowhere near that big) but cringed in hunter embarrassment at the description of blasting at the buck til out of ammo. When a miss happens, definitely the time to stop unless you know why it happened, like your elbow slipping off the tree. In my own embarrassing hunter story, I shot under the first doe I shot at two days ago. Misjudged the range, and shooting a .375 reduced 1,900fps load that drops much more than I'm accustomed to. Swallowed my humble pie as I noted the bullet had torn dirt up slope, directly in line with the doe's 'armpit' but visibly low, looks like I was a coat of paint under the breast bone. Where our stories diverge is I took that to be an instant 'STOP', and waited for a closer deer, which came shortly after and all ended well. I hunt right on our acreage and had to explain to my wife why there were two shots spaced out instead of the usual one. A healthy and humbling experience. So that's my doe story.

...and here I was trying to be open minded! Thanks for saying what I wanted to say right off the bat. Glad to see everyone out hunting, but there are some things that need tweaking and fair criticism's a good way to get there.
