Shotlock Shotgun Vault

Not widely available in many convenient places yet. I guess you could call the dealers, but shipping, and customs would likely make it rather unpleasant.

Once Cabela's USA has it, I'll be getting one shortly after that.

As the old adage goes, if you want something done right you've gotta do it yourself! ;) As there didn't seem to be a lot of information about the Shotlock, I wrote to the folks in the US to see if they shipped to Canada. I received a prompt reply from Don Fenton, Sales and Marketing Director for the company that produces the shotlock. He informed me that Levy's Leathers (http://www.levysleathers.com) was the new Canadian distributor for the Shotlock. Don had already forwarded my e-mail inquiry to Dennis Levy and I was soon in contact with him. Levy's does not have any Canadian retailers set up (yet) and the Shotlock is not on their website; however, Denis was very accommodating and after a bit of credit card information, I had a Shotlock via Fedex this past Monday - WITHOUT any customes/brokerage/other hassles. :) This afternoon I installed the shotlock - a very straightforward process - and I am now resting easy knowing my shotgun is very well secured but readily accessible. Seems like a great product that I suspect would be just what a bunch of CGNers are looking for. You can reach Dennis at: Dennis@levysleathers.com .... and no, I'm not a salesman - just a satisfied customer.

Actually, price is the one thing Dennis asked me not to mention. He's still sorting out the dealers, etc. so a final "retail" price hasn't been nailed down. If you're interested, I'd shoot him off an e-mail and see if he's willing to ship one direct like he did for me ;)

Checked out one today at Al Simmons, price was $169, Looks good, noted as well that many shotguns do not fit, or with accessories.

Shame that accessory compatability is low... it seems that most people who have "tactical" shotguns would rather use those for home defense, as opposed to a "stock" hunting or sporting shotgun, which the lock seems designed for. The ability to mount in a vehicle is a plus though... I've been toying with possible attachment methods for my truck project, so this would certainly be a good one.

Just looking closely, I'll assume my Knoxx stock equipped guns, will not be fitting. Unfortunate, but they are very likely to come out with more models, assuming commercial success of the original. Here's hoping.

excuse my ignorance, what difference is there between this and a trigger lock (set aside the obvious bulk)?

Surface mounting, pretty much. I agree, it is a lot more expensive than an average trigger lock (last Master combo I bought was about $15), and you can buy cheap safes for that amount, but the benefit is the ability to mount the lock anywhere, in any position: Wall, closet, under the bed, behind the seat of your pickup. From what I understand, you can unlock your shotgun pretty quickly if you need it (although it still needs to be loaded).

Still, it's personal preference. If you can use it, great. If not, don't bother. I keep all my firearms locked in their boxes, but I just bought a fourth and it's starting to take a bit of room, so right now a safe makes more sense than a Shotlock. $100 on sale, if I buy a cheap one at Can-Tire, although with a bit of effort it should be more than adequete.

I have a Knox Blackhawk on my Norinco HP9 and it fits fine :)

Advantage over a full blown safe is ease of mounting, and accessibility. Even in the dark I figure I could gain access in 5 or 6 seconds - no finding the keys to slow you down.

I can very easily explain to my Wife, a locked in a safe/vault gun of any nature. Explaining to Her, a gun with just a trigger lock, lying under the bed, is another proposition altogether. If Muskie says a Blackhawk Stock is gonna fit, some FASD MOFO, can expect to see an 870 staring back at him, if he decides to visit at 3am. This is a good thing. BTW, I strongly recommend against drinking during pregnancy, lest your seed become a FASD MOFO who visits at 3am, AKA the hour of terrible misunderstandings.

:D

Two very good points... remember kids, don't drink and drive!
