Swiss Arms Classic Green problem

First off, I'm not even remotely mechanically inclined. Having me assemble/disassemble anything is like asking a boxer to pull the nuts off of a fly.

Anyhow, I field stripped my Classic Green to install a B&T quad-rail forearm, which seemed to go rather well...I didn't require the assistance of cut-off saw, grinder, hammer or welder.

However now that my Classic Green is reassembled I notice a bit of play between the upper and lower that was not there before. I've took apart the upper and lower and reassembled with the same result.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Sorry, but no one here has a SIG 550, as they are prohib. Do you mean Swiss Arms PE90?

You don't know who has what. Just cause it's prohibited, doesn't mean people don't legally own them! Thanks for the productive answer to the OP's question.

Anyway...

As with most rifles that consist of an upper receiver pinned to a lower receiver, a little play is normal. When the rifle first comes out of the box, it may feel like there is no play and everything is tight, but as you fire it and field strip it over and over, the parts will loosen up.

In your case, the plastic hand guards you replaced were probably exerting some pressure on the front take down pin and thus making the receivers seem to have a tight fit.

That play you describe is normal. I've owned 20 SAN rifles and they all have some play between upper and lower to varying degrees. I bet it was like that all along, but that you just didn't notice it.

The PE-90 is also on the prohib list.

Canadian market Classic Greens, Black Specials, Blue Stars, Red Devils Heavy Metal Swiss Arms rifles are distinct models from the SIG 550/PE-90 'family' of rifles, although they superficially resemble the former models. ;)

As for the OP's original concern, a small amount of play between upper and lower is normal and in no way affects accuracy or performance.

I have zero play in any of my Swiss Arms uppers and lowers. The only play is on the foregrip or quad rail as there is no adjustment to take up slack.

You can add a bit of velcro where the quadrail and front takedown touch, it tightens it up a bit.

Duh. Forgot... Thinking AR for some reason.

Got a pic of the 550 lower?? I'd be curious to the differences (other than the go fast marking).

Cyanide ride has one of those Frankenswiss guns with a 556 type lower for AR magazines. It is NOT a prohibited 550 lower.

Here is the best pic I have.

And yes, it has the "upper wiggle" just like everyone else (almost)
