Want an upper that's 16 - 18 inch that's accurate enough for competition shooting out to 400 yards.

In these Obama days - where can I look?

Thanks

I'm an AR noob - have participated in any so far but hear it's common in the US. Am I correct?

Nobody knows? Socom supply go under? No response from email.

May have to pick up a SW MP and throw some money at it.

Don't worry, Not hearing from Socom is just their normal business plan at work.

Very common in the states. I don't know of a 3 gun situation in Alberta that encompasses long and short range shooting. From what I hear the ones that exist are either 8 gun matches, or are <200m.

If you are looking for an AR though, consider the R15 from Remington. I am very impressed with this rifle, and for the 1000 that I paid, tickled pink.

Lethbridge three gun matches include a 400 yard/meter segment. Any AR upper will do the job provided your gear is squared away and your skills are up to the task. A couple years ago a buddy and I were making hits at 300 with his 10.5" AR with EoTech and 3x magnifier.

Chrome-moly or stainless for barrel?

Application 3gun. Length 18", 223 Wylde chamber, 1:7.7 twist, hbar profile.

JP Enterprises uppers are built specifically for 3-gun. A board sponsor - don't remember which one - has imported a bunch. Search, and see what comes up.

Dedicated in building this one. Looking for opinion of CM vs Stainless.

CRAFM brought in JP Rifles. Nice rifles - preemo for 3G. I want to send down a lower for them to build on.

I thought you have an upper?
I'd go with a 16" mid-length gas, gov't profile (or sim.).
No need for an hbar. Talk to Rich at Spartan...

I have a couple uppers from that little Bushy you helped me put a handguard on to a Noveske upper that is a pig for weight.

Looking to build for the next one. Want to stay 18" at a minimum to stay above minor pf if I have to go factory stuff down south. If I'm flying down then ya I'll need to buy at Wallymart or something.

JP Enterprises is vastly overpriced for what you get.
Rich will cut you an 18" in likely any profile you want.
They use Rock Creek and one other barrel IIRC.

I don’t think you need a specific upper. Just shoot what you got. I shoot 3 Gun with a heavy 20 inch tubed rifle and it works fine. The most important thing is to be out shooting and getting proficient with your gear.
