Remington 870 express now 299.99 at bass pro

I think I will buy Beer instead. The headaches would be less.

i dunno; enough beer=headache. my experience, anyway.

i found i got a Marlin rebate back pretty quick this spring, and since Marlin's owned by the same parent, bodes well for this rebate too.

before you spend any money on a Remington, Do a search on Remington law suits. read all about how they are getting sued for poor qualitiy
You might think 299 is a bit high

I have not had one bit of trouble with my 28ga express. Not as smooth as my 28ga wingmasters but perfect for beating through the thick brush when after bunnies and birds.
If it gets marked I don't get upset.

Step one, buy an 870 Express.
Step two, polish chamber.
Step three, install an 870P extractor.
Step four, shoot for thousands of rounds at a time without cleaning or jams using the cheapest possible ammunition.

Or maybe I'm just not picky.

My 12 Ga Express has been abused through 3 goose hunting sessions, plinking and even some clay shooting. Over 1000 cheap rounds through it and not a single problem.

I understand that some Mag./Super Mag. Express receiver's may be pron to ejection problem. Mine is a regular Express (takes 2 3/4 and 3" shells only) and has performed flawlessly. Surface rust is a real issue though and needs to be watched for.

In my opinion, at $299 it is an excellent value.

That's a great buy. I have one and it works great. Best to buy from a store that allows you to inspect the firearm before you purchase it. There are some 870's that have poor workmanship on them and I rejected one that had an annoyingly wavy ribbing on the barrel.

OK, I get it now. Buying the 870 is just part of a do it yourself project, so that the new owner can feel he/she is part of the manufacturing process.

C'mon, it's a cheap gun for people on a budget, no need to rip on them for it.

Yes plus a gun that goes bang and kills for times when I would beat the crap out of an expensive gun.
We are going bunny hunting guys spending 8 hours smashing and rubbing your gun against trees and brush. Great I will take my vintage winchester model 12 28ga that my grandfather left me and was last apraised at 7500.00, not, I take the 400.00 870 28ga express pump and kill them all:).

Exactly!

Because everyone started out with a Beretta, or Benelli.

I am glad I had an 870 for back up when my Beretta failed to cycle in the rain. The cheap POS 870 never skipped a beat all weekend in the rain.

I've been using my Express for 5 years now and never a problem. I'm grabbing one tomorrow from Bass Pro for my Son as a Christmas Present. He wants to start Turkey Hunting in the Spring with the Old Man.

I am getting bored shooting the big birds anyway ;)
