Question about buying a Restricted firearm ?

I already own a Pistol, and at the time when I bought it, I did'nt have a ATT, nor did I belong to a club yet. It took a couple of weeks for the transfer of the firearm to be approved, before the seller could ship the gun to me.

I belong to a club now, and my application for a ATT has been sent in, and I am waiting for my ATT. Once I posess a ATT, do I still have to deal with a 2 week wait, before the transfer of a Restricted firearm is completed if I buy another Pistol ? Is the gun approved quickly just like a Non Restricted, once the buyer has a ATT and owns other Restricted firearms ?

Also, since I will have a ATT, can I just simply pick up the gun and transport it home then withough having to apply for a Temp ATT ?

Sorry, I am sure this has beaten to death, but there is a lot to read in the Sticky's about this and all of the information does'nt jump right out. I am from Ontario also.
 
Hey brother, there isn't easy thing in Ontario, even you have a long term ATT, when you buy a new gun, the gunstore still have to apply a temp att for you to bring the gun home. Every restricted firearm transfer still a long wait. In BC is just a matter of one or two days.

Yes, the ATT has little to do with transfers, and doesn't speed anything up! And in Onterrible it can take well over 2 weks sometimes to get a transfer approved!

No, refer to answer to question 1.

No, your ATT only allows you to transfer your guns to the range from home, or to your house from the range.

Any transporting of your guns to or from anywhere else requires a temp ATT.

Luckily when transfers are put through you also automiatically get a temp ATT to transport it home.

In September/October a private transfer took 32 days for me. It was my 4 th restricted, I had an LATT and belonged to two clubs. Draw your own conclusions.
 
Wow thats pretty lousy. I figured that once you already own a handgun, and have a ATT that it would be smooth sailing from there. Does'nt really make much sense. You would think that once the CFO has it in there system that you are already a Restricted owner, and that you have a ATT, that the approval process would be as simple as buying a Non Restricted firearm.

There is a gun auction in Ontario this weekend, and they sell quite a few Restricted firearms. There is a lot of people who show up for the auction also from out of town. I wonder if everyone of those guys who buys a Restricted firearm, who lives from out of town, has to come back 2 weeks later, or so and pick up there Restricted firearm. I did'nt really think that it was done like that. I guess I was wrong. Maybe I will call them up and see if they are able to speed up the process somehow, because it is a auction that has a butload of people from out of Town, buying guns.

Well I just called up the Auction company, and he told me that at the Auction when Restricted guns are purchased, that the transfer is approved within a couple hours and the Restricted gun is taken home with the buyer, the same day, in most cases anyways.

Maybe, but highly unlikely. I've never heard of a few hours to transfer a restricted in Ont regardless of who's selling it. Auction or otherwise.

I had one in 24 hrs recently from a dealer, but I've also heard (from CFO) that the CFO sometimes works overtime on the odd weekend to clean up the backlog in Ont, so maybe it was three days not one. (called in Fri. approved Mon.)

My thoughts, good luck with that.

You also posted earlier that once you have been approved the transfers should be quicker. THAT is the very argument we all have. We have been vetted to get an Rpal, have many purchases under our belts, yet we still have to go through a complete check each time.
 
wow ontario is really slow, the last one i bought in calgary,i was out of the store in less than 15 mins, sorry bout the lack of caps but i am down to one hand for a while, 6-8 weeks
 
The time for the transfer to be approved does vary quite a lot. A month or two ago Ontario transfers were taking 1-2 weeks. Lately we have had many Ontario transfers go through in 1-2 days. We've even had a few recent Ontario transfers go through in a few hours.

However, if you're going to an auction or gun show, don't count on it being approved that day. It may need to be shipped or you pick it up a few days later.

yes that is true, unless the transferee lives in onterrible.
 
The gun auction is in Ontario, and has usually sells something like 50-60 Restricted firearms. They have been doing this for several years, and usually hold one of these Auctions every 3-4 months. I heard that when you buy Restricted firearms at the Auction that in most cases the Restricted firearm will go home with you, that day. This has a lot to do with why I asked this question from the get go. They must have some sort of arrangement worked out with the CFO, to get some sort of special attention to be able to have the transfers completed within a couple hours ( in most cases ).

I did call up there today and talked to a employee, and he did tell me that in most cases, all of the Restricted are transfered within a couple of hours or so, and the Restricted firearms go home with the buyer, the same day ( in most cases ).

If there was a "special arrangement" in place I would expect every dealer in Ontario to be looking at some kind of action against the CFO's office. The system should be the same for everyone in Ontario - some businesses should not be handed a competitive edge at the whim of the CFO. Out of town people should have their firearms shipped just like everyone else who buys a restricted outside their home town. Typical Ontario Political BS, someone knows someone so they get a special deal.

I am in Ont.

I recently had a restricted Billed , Transferred, Packed and Shipped in about 7 hours from a dealer in the Virden, Manitoba area.

A record for me.
 
I am not sure exactly what is the arrangement that this Auction Company has, but it is true that they in most cases, when a Restricted firearm is sold at the Auction, that within a couple of hours the gun is transfered, and the buyer is able to take it home with him/her.

This is the link of the Auction Company, and there is a place you can click to go to the other website that shows the listings of the guns that are up for auction on Saturday. There is a Phone #, so if you are thinking about coming out and are driving a long ways, you can ask them how the transfer process works. When I called them up, they told me that the Transfers are done at the auction right away, and in most cases, the buyer will be able to bring his Restricted firearm home within the same day, so they won't have to return to pick it up.

I did'nt go into detail and asked how it was possible, to have the transfer done so quickly, but I do know that this place has been doing it for a long time.

If anyone would like to confirm, what I am saying then feel free to call them up, and post your results here. I actually would like someone else to varify what I have said, just in case I am being misinformed, or I am not understanding what they are telling me correctly.
 
I purchased a Resticted on a Friday evening recently from a dealer on consignment. The transfer was requested Monday in the AM and I got the call arounf noon Tuesday to pick it up. This was only 2 weeks ago and in Ontario.

I've waited 2 weeks before also therefore I guess its hit or miss.
