I have always had good luck during the gun hunt, but never have shot a deer with my bow.

Bought my Excalibur crossbow 5 years ago, and have gone out bow hunting every fall after the gun hunt. I passed up lots of does, but never had any bucks come into range.

This year, I finally got lucky.

I quit smoking on the last day of the gun hunt (Sun Nov 15th), and was having a major nic fit on the following Friday. It was either hit the woods, or hit the variety store for a pack of Players!

I hit the woods at 4:30pm, and this guy walked within 5 yards in front of my stand. I have a gun rest on it, and couldn't lower my bow past it to shoot him.

Luckily for me, I was able to lean over the side of my stand and ready my bow. At 20 yards, I bleated at him as he carried on his way, but he didn't stop.

I took quick aim, and let one fly. It hit him high on the back. He ran 50 yards and crumpled up like a 3 dollar lawn chair. Bolt when through both lungs and stayed in his chest.

Thanks to my good buddy and fellow CGN "Waltman" for coming over to take picts, helping me drag it out to the truck, and hang it in the garage.

This 8 pointer weighed 213 lbs field dressed, and is going up on the den wall when the taxidermist is done with him.

Jay:
Excalubur Excocet, I used the original bolts and broadheads (Thunderheads??) that came with the package when I bought it.

Next time shoot one closer to the truck !!! Dragging deer sucks.

Walt:
I'll do my best!!
Just hope I have the chance to do it again before 5 years comes around again.
Which one gives you the "Shakes" more?

1. Buck fever

2. a Nic fit.

Congrats on both accomplishments. :)

Beef:
Definitely the Buck fever. At least I can buy a patch for the Nicotine.
