First off, Not sure if this was meant for the Media forum, or this one. If it is in the wrong spot I apologize. The media one was full of youtube snippets and stickys abut no boobies.
I recently just came into some Magpul Speedplates for my Glock 17. I bought them on a whim because they were only 13 bucks from ###yweapon.com and there was no real reviews on line about them. Got them yesterday in the mail, and got right to work on installation so I could try them out today.
A lot of people in other communities pretty much think this is designed for gear whores, which I will admit I am. It's just another thing to separate you from money you could be spending on more firearms or ammo. I personally love Magpul's lineup from P mags, to their theory based accessories. Other than the absolute pain in the a** it was to install these things, as I actually broke a mag being so hard on them during installation (Glock's fault not Magpul), I really like these. Bare in mind that I do not use the rings as you might assumed they are to be used (wearing your magazine like a ring) but essentially increasing the overall size, and tactile ability of the magazine. The plate is polymer, but the ring is a rigid rubber. I find it far easier to manipulate the magazines, and feed them into the firearm. The rubber ring also acts as a bumper, protecting the plate. Another benefit is that when you run into a double feed, you can really tear that mag out after slide lock back.
All in all, I like them and will keep using them. Even if you dont really agree with using magpul's...well Magazine pulls, the grip and size extension really helps out. That and it looks high speed as s**t. : D
PROS
-Price ($13)
-Magpul quality (complete your Chris Costa fantasies)
-Increases size of magazines, as well as tactile ability. Easier to handle
(Great for competition and fighting systems)
-Acts as bumper plate.
-Comes if Earth and Black.
-Must have for Gear Whores.
-Hook acts as 3rd finger grove for Sub-Compact models
CONS
-Increases size (conceal ability for LE or people who live outside of this country)
-Total pain in the butt to install. Just getting G17 floor plates of a mag is the hardest thing in the world.
-Some reports of rings ripping off (I will update this if it happens)
-Old school 1911 and wheel guns crustys will think your dumb.
