First off, Not sure if this was meant for the Media forum, or this one. If it is in the wrong spot I apologize. The media one was full of youtube snippets and stickys abut no boobies.

I recently just came into some Magpul Speedplates for my Glock 17. I bought them on a whim because they were only 13 bucks from ###yweapon.com and there was no real reviews on line about them. Got them yesterday in the mail, and got right to work on installation so I could try them out today.

A lot of people in other communities pretty much think this is designed for gear whores, which I will admit I am. It's just another thing to separate you from money you could be spending on more firearms or ammo. I personally love Magpul's lineup from P mags, to their theory based accessories. Other than the absolute pain in the a** it was to install these things, as I actually broke a mag being so hard on them during installation (Glock's fault not Magpul), I really like these. Bare in mind that I do not use the rings as you might assumed they are to be used (wearing your magazine like a ring) but essentially increasing the overall size, and tactile ability of the magazine. The plate is polymer, but the ring is a rigid rubber. I find it far easier to manipulate the magazines, and feed them into the firearm. The rubber ring also acts as a bumper, protecting the plate. Another benefit is that when you run into a double feed, you can really tear that mag out after slide lock back.

All in all, I like them and will keep using them. Even if you dont really agree with using magpul's...well Magazine pulls, the grip and size extension really helps out. That and it looks high speed as s**t. : D

PROS
-Price ($13)
-Magpul quality (complete your Chris Costa fantasies)
-Increases size of magazines, as well as tactile ability. Easier to handle
(Great for competition and fighting systems)
-Acts as bumper plate.
-Comes if Earth and Black.
-Must have for Gear Whores.
-Hook acts as 3rd finger grove for Sub-Compact models

CONS
-Increases size (conceal ability for LE or people who live outside of this country)
-Total pain in the butt to install. Just getting G17 floor plates of a mag is the hardest thing in the world.
-Some reports of rings ripping off (I will update this if it happens)
-Old school 1911 and wheel guns crustys will think your dumb.

That seems like a retarded idea IMO...I give my pistol mags a good slap when inserting. That would be a major pain... Literally.

The rubber of the hook actually compresses when you slam the mags in, I actually find that they are more easy on my hands than standard plates.

I guess i see why there was hardly any info online about them! Everybody hates them! : (

The only thing I can think of that they would help with is deep nylon pouches.

Ordinarily I run kydex mag pouches, but the other day I was shooting my p226, for which I don't have any specific kydex pouches. I pulled my TAG pistol pouches off my chest rig and put them on the belt. They worked fine EXCEPT the pouches are so deep that normal mag gripping out of the pouch is impossible.

So having the fancipulls or whatever would be potentially useful for nylon MOLLE type gear, IMO, but not so good for kydex etc.

I will have to concur with most people who are thinking that the use of these plates are to wear them like rings like Mr. T would. Or to pull them out of your mag well in mag changes (which would actually slow you down) Actually this is probably what they were intended for...

I needed something to increase the overall length of the magazines for manipulation. I trust the quality of magpul products, and these do what I need them to do perfectly. If we were allowed to have + capacity extensions for our magazines, I would have done that in a hearbeat. Other competitors like Pearce and such didnt really meet my needs.

I know I dont really need to defend Magpul products, or these specifically, especially at 13 bucks, but I recommend people actually use them, or see them in person. If anyone in Calgary area would like a gander at them let me know.

Instead of dumping on you..

I would say, good job on the write up. Thanks for taking the time to do the photos.
The effort to spread info products is what is good about CGN.

The product is not for me, but again, good job.

Good write up!

Whats so "speedy" about them?

Seems pretty useless to me!

As the poster above mentions slamming those into your gun all day might not be nice on the hands.

They are easier to index... Especially if your rocking a little G26 in an ankle holster on one ankle then with extra mags on the other ankle.

Im not worried about it! I believe the shooters here dont like the speedplates, not me! I dont take it personally! Thanks for the compliments though

they look neat, but i am more interested in your light,
care to tell me more about it?

Sure, it's a TLR-1S by Streamlight. I usually use Surefire products, but $250 for a weapon light is insane, so I went with this as it's only $140 at Retail. It runs off 2 CR123 lithium batteries and puts out roughly 160 on the S model, with tactical illumination (50 lumen output) for 2.5 hours. It operates on a cant lever that when rocked counter clock wise with your reaction thumb, is momentary on, and pushed clockwise, is constant on. If you double tap either way, it will activate a strobe function. Seems like a Trivial function but supposedly it's supposed to really disorient subjects. It can be deactivated however. It watertight to 1M for 1 hour, and comes with rail adapters for Glock, Beretta, S&W TSW and Beretta 90-Two.

I am going to whip up another write up about it in the forums, I'm just waiting for Blade-Tech to come in so I can use it on the range for a little better review.

I like them. If I see them in a store I will buy a few for sure. They look NIFTY. I don't really care how they improve (or not) times, I'm never going to win the match anyway just there to have fun.

I like that light as well, where did you get yours for $140.00? Also, I see you like great gear as well which is why you use blade tech.
