Hi Everybody
I picked up a scout mount for my CZ 858, now I'm looking for recommendations for a scope. I have seen quite a few people with red dots set up on this type of mount, but it seems nobody mounts more conventional scopes. It looks like a pistol scope might have too much eye relief but I'm not sure. Has anyone mounted a conventional (not a scout or pistol) scope on one of these mounts with any luck, or is more eye relief needed? Does anybody have any advice for mounting a scope on a scout mount?

You can't put a conventional scope on a 858 handguard rail. It won't work.

If you want a scope on a scout mount make sure you get a LER scope with the right eye relief and rings that work for the scope/mount combo.

The bottom rifle in the pic has a 4x NC Star LER scope on an old Infratek rail with short Weaver rings.

This is what I am wondering, what combination has worked for others? Also, are you positive it will need to be a LER scope? It doesn't look like the scope will be far enough away to require a pistol scope, which as I understand it, is the same thing as a scout scope.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not positive about ####. Measure up how much eye relief you need and do some research.

There's regular scopes, intermediate eye relief scopes and long eye relief scopes. I use the term LER interchangeably for the last two. Most scope maker websites will have the eye relief info posted. With that and a tape measure you can figure out what you need.

Scout Mount's are a major pain in the @$$!
Trust me they do cuz I owned 1.
With that being said red dot's or holosight's were the only 1's I could get to work. Pistol or Long Eye Relief scopes just couldn't get the proper eye relief set-up.

Thanks Satain, this is what I was worried about. Would you mind telling me what specific types of LER scopes you tried, so I could avoid them. I read on some American sites that I might have some luck with a low magnification, fixed power scout scope.

I understand this may not be the best way to scope my CZ, but I do remember seeing a fella with a Leupold pistol scope set up this way that looked great, and worked for him. I'm sure the red dot would be better, but I just don't want one on this rifle.

Ya sure, no problem.
I would stear clear of the NcStar line up all together. Cuz they all failed for me. I gather because this is the main impact point on the CZ 858 platform and the reticale kept on lossing it's zero. Then I up-graded to a variable mag Bushnell Trophy 2-6 X 32mm Constant Eye Relief Scope and found switching the mag level was pointless because after 4x I couldn't get any better group's and started noticing it was getting harder to focus, infact my groups started expanding. 1 guy at the range said it was doing that because I was over focusing but I didn't belive him at the time and wasted yet more ammo. Then I swaped it out for a Leupold FX-II 4x28mm but then the issue I found with the fixed power was beside's the fact I would catch my self blinking every time I pulled the trigger was the fact that under 50 meters it was way to much magnification power to work accuratly and quickly to aquire the target. This is why for this rifle I still believe the best combo out there is a red dot with a flip to side magnifer. Also this is best achevied on the top of the hand guard so your non-trigger hand can quickley adjust the flip to side magnifer.
Hope this helps ya out but remeber this is just my 2 cents and every one is different.

A scout scope will work just as well on an 858 as on any other rifle as long as it's decent quality.

I have no issues hitting steel at 400m with mine.

Is there enough room on the front handguard for a red dot and magnifier? That sounds like an interesting set up, but im still thinking i will end up going for a aimpoint micro, i have a bolt action .308 for long shots. I also think putting a scope on these rifles is kinda pointless, i wouldn't wanna shoot anything past 150yards anyway if i intended on killing it(deer), if its paper maybe a little further. I do like the idea of scout scopes on them though being there only 2.5x

I have an Eotech on mine and have no problems hitting the 200 yard gong. Its a lot of fun. I had a Scout Mount also and abandoned it. I like the NEA cantilever mount. If I could find a shorter scope or a shell deflector I would put a nice 3x9 on it. Tried it once abd it dinged the scope up but worked really well.

I have a Leupold FX II 2.5x28 IER Scout scope on my NEA upper handguard mounted with Leapers 1" offset mount. It works perfectly. Gives me good eye relief. Plus I am using MAgpul stock, so I can adjust it if I need to. But eye relief on Leupold is very forgiving. I can move it couple of inches back and forth and it still works well. I am thinking of substituting Leapers mount for Burris PEPR though, because Leapers is kind of flimsy.

I ran a scoutscope mount for a time and found it to be a solid mount and a good design for shooting non-corrosive. The problem lies in shooting corrosive and removing the handguard after each session to clean the gas system. That's when I lost zero.
