I have not put many rounds down this rifle since I only purchase 30-06 hunting rounds and do not want to bend an op rod. I went to Ellwood Epps to buy a gas plug for my Garand and they said they are having a hard time getting these in. Where abouts can I find one? Do I really have to worry that much about damage? are there any other alternatives (asides from not buying hunting loads or different weight hunting loads). Is it possible to drill a small hole in a spare gas plug? Sorry about all these questions I am new to Garands. Thanks a lot for any advice in advance.

The M-1 Garand rifle was designed around the .30 Ball M-1 cartridge: a 173-grain bullet at about 2600 ft/sec and propelled by a charge of IMR-4895 powder.

The standard WW2 load was the .30 Ball M-2: a 152-grain bullet at 2800 ft/sc, ahead of IMR-4895 powder.

Stick with the quicker powders and 150 bullets and you will have no troubles.

You could always try an adjustable gas screw. I've just had one sent from Mc Cann Industries at http://www dot mccannindustries dot com

There's another from Schuster Manufacturing but I couldn't find any way of getting it shipped up here. They're not on the State Dept. list.

That was the issue I had, the stores I went to about getting them imported in all said they were having issues with the states with these items. At the present moment I will stick to shooting 150 grain and hopefully get in an adjustable plug soon.
