Reloading newb Christmas research...

Pretty much nothing we do here on CGN is "cost effective". ;)

.

compared to most other hobbies and/or Wine, women and Song, shooting is dirt cheap.

Try buying tools to go work on any type of vehicle racing?

Shooting is one of a handful of sports that uses equipment where the average Cdn income can get them "F1" level gear.

Gotta agree with Mysticplayer, its a relatively cheap hobby. Gives you something to do at night when the wine runs out, the women are cranky, and only crappy music on the radio.

Sounds like you need to shoot more to fix that ratio!! I have saved quite a bit vs. if I had bought all the rounds I have shot.

Of course like ^^^^ said, nothing about CGN is cost effective!

I guess you're in the 10%. Just like your mom says... ...you're special. :D

Relatively cheap = agree 50%
All your other points = agree 100%

Of the two mentioned, I'd get the turret press. I've had one for decades and use if for handgun and rifle cartridges. As mentioned by Lister, I too like being able to leave the dies set up in the turret plates and not have to readjust when changing cartridges. I use it as a single stage for rifle and rotating turret for handgun. Suites my needs fine.

+1. I have a Classic Turret and it works fine for me for everything from 9mm up to .338 Win Mag. Not as fast as a full progressive, but can easily do 150 rounds+ per hour on the pistol calibres when set up with the auto-disk powder measure and safety prime.

The turret plates are dirt cheap and I have a number that I have set up with two calibres per plate that I never pull the dies from. It takes seconds to swap out a plate with dies still in place.

Reloading and shooting costs practically nothing..
I have 2 boys in hockey and girl..1 hockey stick $250..broken, Skates $400 too small in one year. gas.hotels..meals..you see where this is going.
My reloading equip..I can use for 30 years..and still probably get 75% of what I paid, buy good, buy once.

I've used the same hockey stick for 3 years and I paid 19.99 for it. Skates 12 years and I won't even tell you about my leather shoulder pads.

If you're still looking, the Hornady Lock N Load classic kit is on sale at Brownells for $299, with another 10% off if you enter code RFL in the checkout phase. You wouldn't get your dies in for under $300, but you would have a much higher quality product to start with.

Hornady's warranty is the same as Dillon's, if it breaks they fix it, no questions. The kit seems to include everything you need to start except dies, shell holders and caliper. You can add those later when you have more budget of course.
