A older friend of mine has a late sixties era Ithaca SKB MODEL 100 in 20 gauge. He has serious vision problems and at age 78, sadly his hunting days are over. He was asking me if I wanted to buy it myself or help him sell it. I know nothing about them so I'm looking for a little feedback from some gunnuutz. Not a gauge or style (o/u) I am normally drawn to. Most of mine are SxS

Thanks,

James

Are you sure it's a Model 100? IIRC the 100 is a sxs.

A SKB 20ga O/U could go between $550 and $800. A dealer has one in nice shape for $699.99.

The 100 is a SxS and might get $650 to $850.

Very nice guns in my opinion, well made, great value.

See, I know nothing about these things. I know it's an O/U, but I haven't looked at the gun in a number of years (since he last hunted). When I spoke to him last night he said it was a model 100 but, with no disrespect meant, at 78 years old, he's not as on the ball as he once was.

Feel like I really need to get over and inspect the gun as he won't be able to tell me anything of value on the phone. He's 90 minutes away from me but I intend to get out to see him later next week.

Knowing him, I was surprised to find out it was even registered! LOL

My 20 gauge SKB/Ithaca is a Model 500. I paid between 550-800 second hand, and I consider this money well spent.

Vision & memory are not what it once was for many of us here. Cheers......

I'm in my early fifties and it's already started. LOL

When I was talking with my friend last night he said "What the F@#k to they call them your golden years for" At least he's keeping a sense of humour about it.

I know that feeling too.

A 20 gauge SKB o/u is a nice upland gun. I used a borrowed one a few years ago on a upland hunt and liked it a great deal. The SKB has a couple of advantages over the Browning Citori in my opinion.

Depending on condition, chokes and barrel length it I think the estimates of 550 to 800 are probably right.

I've owned a SKB 500, 200 and a 100 over the years. They are great shotguns and a good value. The only thing I don't like about them is the single trigger.

Prolly a Model 500.

A truly well-made gun. To get the same quality in a new gun of different manufacture, you'll pay $1200-$2000. Among the few kinds of "affordable" doubles that are truly good.

The best thing about them is the single trigger weather its a 0/u or SXS doesn't affect the price condition is more important $450- $750 for either version the sxs are actually less common which may add to the value

Had a nice SKB 500 20ga in Exc+ condition that I partially traded in for a CG Magnus 28ga a few years ago. I still regret the move as I found that to be a very well finished firearm and it fit me great. If memory serves trade value for that was $700.

I compared that closely with a 20ga 686 and did not find much noticeable difference in terms of overall build quality should one discount the physical design of the receiver + SST and the fixed chokes. I found the single trigger system to be excellent on the 500 as well as a 200E that I had also owned at the same time.

Ithaca 20ga is my favorite shotgun. I've had my Model 100 SxS with 25" barrels for 40yrs and over the years added two Model 500 O/U's with 26" in both 20ga and 12ga. Recently acquired the Model 280E SxS with the straight grip in 20ga. The SxS is a great grouse gun and you need to be able to shoulder it quickly for those fast shots. The value estimates are accurate subject to condition. Good luck.
