The reciever is Winchester, and all the other parts are GI except the new non-rest barrel. I appears to be a good job, and the rounds feed ok, but I'm getting poor extaction, which at times causes a double feed.

I'm reloading 1F brass, sized and trimmed in good shape. Using 2400 for the powder. Started with 10.5 gns and had problems. Striped down the gun, good cleaning then tried 11.6gns.... and still the same problem.

I notice the return spring seems a bit weak. Could this some how be part of the problem??? They say the max load for 2400 is around 12gns.

Any help would be appreciated. I know lots about the Garand, but little of the Carbine.

short strokeing?

you may have an early gas piston and nut which could cause a short stroke

you NEED the correct special wrench to remove it anything else WILL wreck it!

the extractor may be worn

Don't think it's the gas piston. the whole unit is new, one of those non-resticted barrels that were coming into the country a few years back. I'll check the extractor and ejector tomorrow...

Thanks...

If it's double feeding, the rifle isn't short stroking. It sounds like your extractor isn't gripping the rim.

You were kind of right. I just did a check with some empty casing, and it was droping the case "into" the mag well. I'm pretty sure the problem is a weak extactor spring. I can move the extractor with my finger on this carbine bolt, but can't budge it on the other one I have...... Eureka!! found the problem.

Again, thanks for all the input guys.

"...can move the extractor with..." That'd do it. Carbine bolts really need the tool to disassemble. Keeps the parts from flying around. Don't know where you'd get one in Canada though.
A new one from Gunparts runs $25.60US. $61.75US for an new 'issue' tool.

Marstar is sold out of extractor springs. Western Gunparts, maybe.
IMR4227 give great accuracy with a 110 grain jacketed bullet.

you CANT get ANY m1 carbine parts from the usa as its on the no export list

so you need to find parts in canada ( i tried to bring in a bunch of spring kits and the us exporter was denied)

"...on the no export list..." 'Restricted for export' list. U.S. export permit is required.
Gunparts reference is for information purposes only. Mind you, tools aren't parts.

true but unless your police or military they will NOT approve the export
