In English, the SAFN 49 or FN49.
I have an Egyptian in 8mm, and just picked up a lightly sported 7mm off the EE (thanks Jan). Great rifles. CGN member Diopter has some great pics up on http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=2078&highlight=fn49There's another Venezuelan listed on the EE right now IIRC.
They sell for between $300 and $1100ish depending on condition and nationality/caliber. Optics are super-duper rare.
Sacrilege to say so, but I prefer the FN over a Garand.
EDIT: Non-restricted. There are apparently some CAs out there that would class Prohib but I've never seen one.
There was a selective-fire TRIGGER MECH that was installed on some of the early ones; most were later changed out for original semi-auto-only trigger mechs.
War Museum has a real sweetheart, but it's not on display. Egyptian, 8mm, selective-fire, barrel chopped at the gas plug, stock chopped at pistol grip, Egyptian crest inlaid in gold: one of the rifles/pistols/whatever carried by King Farouk's bodyguards when they were riding along with the King in one of his (very fast) cars. Farouk used to like to drive, leaving the bodyguards to hold on for dear life. He once gave a fellow I knew a lift from Cairo to Alexandria, 100 mph the whole way!
They are nice rifles. Be careful with the gas bleed: too-high port pressure can make the rifle double and damage itself.

Non-issue. I'm married. I have to ask to use the damn thing anyway. Hence my preoccupation with firearms and large trucks.
The Garand is nice, the FN is nicer. 'Course it would be nice to own both...
Just bought the Belgian contract .30-06 "Sniper Trainer" from John's Gun Vault. Currently doing a detailed strip/cleaning as it still has cosmoline/mung in a lot of the nooks. I think I am going to buy one of those portable steamers to try it out on her. The rifle is in very good condition with a good bore that is cleaning up nicely with gunzilla. In a month or so, I purchased and will be getting an excellent condition, original 4X OIP scope, ECHO rings and mount for her!!! Damn excited to say the least!!! Paid more for that than the rifle! Oh so rare though! I will post pics when I get everything back together with more to follow when the scope arrives. Range report will have to wait until next spring as she is currently in hiding in the safe from the boss.

That post is a few years old....The last set I saw in Calgary (Don't recall which contract) went for a tick over a thousand bucks two years ago.
S&K makes a reciever cover mount. I've been watching, haven't seen much. Been toying with having a set made but I have other stuff on the go.

Here is an ABL-1951 Type 3 made by OIP (Optique et Instruments de Précision) . It is marked V5-OS-784-010B.G. TIR.EL.TEL.ESC.SCHERPSCH (Tireur d'Elite - Telescopische Scherpschutter) and the ABL marking stands for Armee Belge and Belgisch Leger which translates to Belgian Army in two of the official Belgian languages. OIP was in the city of Gand (aka Ghent) Belgium until 1988 when they moved to Oudenaarde. Founded in 1919 OIP still supplies high quality optics as well as heads-up displays and other hi-tech items such as fibre optics, lasers , light intensification and holography.
This ABL-1951 scope, SR # 934, is in very good condition with a few mounting scratches and a little fading of the bluing on the tube. The optics are clear and sharp and the adjustment s seem to function correctly. The ECHO rings/mount is in excellent condition with what appears to be a parkerized military finish with a little finish off the sharp edges and has the older, more desirable, large knobs. The base which attaches to the FN-49 is in the white (steel, unfinished). If you have been seeking an original sniper scope and mount for your FN-49 take a look at this one.
