I have an X-bolt composite stalker in 7mm WSM. It is very accurate and very nice to carry. I love the rubberized coating on the synthetic stock. I would recommend this rifle to anyone. On the down side... the blueing seems kind of thin. Seems to scratch easily, so you have to be careful. But, I took it out several days this season, bagged a couple deer, and no new marks were added. Super shooter. I may get another. A stainless in 300 WSM perhaps.
The Browning X-bolt is a good hunting rifle. Well made, functions without a hiccup and shoots handloads under 1 MOA without much experimenting. I am sure it performs similarily with quality factory ammo. Handle and shoulder an x-bolt then try out the savages and go with what you prefer....they'll both suit you fine as general purpose hutning rifles.

I have two of thim now, 22-250 & 300 wsm. They come glass badded right from the fectory. very good looking and good shooters.
Glass bedding is an extra accurizing method that comes free with the browning x-bolt and a-bolts. I am a savage fan as they are very accurate rifles and don't cost a whole lot. I had an opportunity to pick up an x-bolt at a low price so I did. I got the x-bolt varmint chambered in .223. It's got a medium heavy barrel with the awesome duratouch stock. I developed some loads for this rifle and it is nothing short of extraordinary.

I can't really compare a Savage against an Browning Xbolt. The Savages are very functional rifles but I don't like their designs but I would never try to tell you that they can't shoot well because they do. I just don't think that their action is very refined. My Xbolt is quite the opposite, it is bedded and the action is much more elegant (shorter bolt lift, nice trigger, fit and finish are very good, etc). I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a rifle - if it is just a tool get the Savage if you want something a little bit more you can't go wrong with the Xbolt. This is mine in 300WSM.

xbolt wins.... but i cant shoot well enough to tell whats more accurate... The browning just looks better

With a cold barrel my X-Bolt (308) will put 3 shots touching at 100 meters, averaging .75 inch. I have only shot it once at 200 meters and that group was 1.25 inches. I don't let the thin barrel heat up but I am curious how much the groups would open up.
i got an xbolt a couple yrs ago now and love it, the feel is nice the recoil pad great trigger is good love that riffle
was out today actually working up a load with Berger hunting vld 175 and shot .742 3shot group at 100 yds i think this bullet combo is going to work good

I am in the market for a rifle in this price range. I am leaning towards a Tikka T3 .270. Can anyone compare the two?
Both are similar, tikka doesn`t have a true short action(not relevant if you want a 270) X bolt has a rotary mag that holds 5 regular or 4 Mag or WSM cartridges, T3 holds 3 rds. I just got a WSM in a Savage, it only holds 2 rds in the mag. Both very nice rifles IMO

I have a T3 Hunter, and a X-Bolt Composite stalker. Both shoot great. I'd say the X-bolt is more refined. Just a bit classier. The T3 in .270 will be a great shooter, and will last you a long time. It won't be a bad choice at all. The X-bolt will do the same thing. Pick whichever you like the feel of/fits you best. Both will shoot the lights out.
I have had a Stainless Xbolt in 325wsm for 2 years now...love it!!! Everything about it is great. Looks good, light weight, very very acurate and not sure if its because of the recoil pad or the cartridge but there is very little kick...infact, my old remington 270 felt twice as harsh!!! The one thing a little different than other rifles though is the bases for mounting the scope...they have a special 4bolt base. Im not sure if others are making them yet but at the time when I got mine Browning was the only one and they where pretty prices

I perform scope setup and adjustments at my range so I get to shoot a LOT of different rifles and I was quite impressed by the X. It's on my list of rifles to get.
The action is tight, trigger not to heavy, accurate, light weight.

I have the X-Bolt Carbon Fiber in 7mm-08 love the gun. It shoots factory loads that I have tried so far under and inch and its a pretty light handy rifle which I like.

So can you tell me a bit more about the carbon fiber? Untill today when I was checking out the browning site (was hoping they added new caliburs to the varmint stalker Xbolts) I had no idea they made a carbon fiber stock. I love my Dura-touch stocks more than any other stock I have ever used and I would take wood over a synthetic stalk any day of the week...how does yours compare?
