Just did a search for this and only found 1 gun similar - sent the guy a pm but in the meantime...

anyone have the 12" Hogue overmold stock and foregrip for their 870 express tactical?

the stock on my gun is too long to shoulder nicely so I want to swap it out and this set seems to be reasonably priced and easily available - just not sure if it's nice quality or if it is worse than the stock pieces on my gun. Does it matter that I have an express tactical and not a regular 870, will it change the fit of any of the products?

TIA

I think all external/cosmetic 870 parts are interchangable, from the Express, to the regular, to the Wingmaster. As long as the parts are for a Remington 870, they should fit. A stock from an 11-87 (is that the model?) might fit as well, but don't quote me on that.

I don't know what the Hogue overmold stock looks like, but what are you trying to achieve in the long run? You might be able to just shorten your stock (is it a synthetic or wooden one?), or look into an adjustable stock, like the Knoxx ones. Do you have a pistol grip and fixed stock on yours, or is it just the "regular" style stock? If it's a pistol-grip style, then you've got lots of options for replacement stocks.

this is the gun that I have

Ah, I see... nice looking gun, by the way.

I'm not sure about quality and feel of Hogue components, but they seem to be held in high regard. From what I understand, they've got a price tag to match. Do you have a shop close by that stocks them, so you could take your stock in and compare the two? You won't be able to actually mount it, but you might be able to get an idea of the length and feel and all, before you buy one online or wherever.

The Hogue will fit any 870 (Wingmaster, Express, Tactical, Marine, Police), Dominion Grizzly and the Norinco HP-9. The only issue might be the forend fit on the HP-9.
Hogue is a quality line, if you've handled a newer S&W revolver it may have had Hogue grips on it (a tacky rubber), the overmold is covered in the same rubber.

Does the foregrip slide overtop of my current stock grip? or do I completely remove the stock grip then replace it with the hogue one?

I guess that is what I should have asked in terms of fit!

The stock forend comes off first. You need a special wrench or tool, or get creative with a set of pliers to get the forend retaining nut off (look in the space between the mag tube and the forend (empty gun please) from the muzzle end). You will see the ring, it has two small indents opposite each other that allow you to get the ring to remove/replace it.

I had the hogue forend and short LOP stock on my 870 Police and it is a very nice set. Very "grippy", comfy and well made. CRAFM at the top of page carries the set. I only changed it because I wanted a pistol grip stock and surefire forend.

Houge stuff is great, i use them on allmost all of my shotgun builds.
you may want to rething the 12" lop, unlerss you are really short or your planing to wear a tac vest or very heavy winter clothing, you may want to stick with the standard lop.
We have 1 houge standard stock set in stock as wel las just the forends.
you will need basic tools to remove your but stock and a forend tool to remove you forens and reinstall it.
we allso make and sell one of these tools for $10.
pm me if you need any help

I love the Hogue foreend ......nice and grippy, even when you are sweating profusely from 38 degree weather.

The only thing I don't like about grippy stocks, is that it catches on any and all clothing, making shouldering the firearm problematic, when one is in a hurry. There is an easy fix though.........Duct Tape!

Can you buy the fore end on it's own? I have a Knoxx stock on my Grizzly (and don't want a sticky stock) but the fore end is pretty crappy/cheap on the Grizzlies.

As an aside, I did finally get a chance to see these in the flesh up at Epp's recently. Interesting, I saw at least one blister pack that had the fore end removed, only the stock there. It was priced lower if memory serves. I would have asked if I can just BUY the fore end from another pack, but it was a Saturday...and SUPER busy.

I only want the stock and not the fore end....

You Guys are a match made in Heaven!

LOL, yeah but I'm still paying off my surefire fore end so I will have to wait til after christmas. I guess if he loves me enough he could wait...LOL.

The shorter length of pull isn't so bad if you square off a bit more to the target and with heavy clothes.... for summer use a slip on recoil pad will add some length as well as cush.

Right now I find it uncomfortable to reach the foregrip - my hand is at the back of it instead of securely on it - which is quite annoying

Have you got a short foreend?

I like holding most long guns close to the receiver and with pumps you cant really do that. It's just a con of the design.

Danimal, maybe you should try the typical longer foreend.
The "tactical" ones don't go past the receiver when shucked so they don't interfere with shell holders or get caught up on pinched material but for non tactical uses they work fine.
