Hi all, I am currently using a Remington 710 in .270 and am simply trying to learn as much as I can about different calibers etc. as a sort of prep before I buy a better quality/more permanent hunting rifle in year or two. I like the feel of the Tikka rifles (particularly the stainless with grey laminate stock) and am considering a few different calibers: 6.5x55, .270, 7mm Rem Mag.
A few reasons that I'm considering the 6.5x55 is that it is a proven and successful hunting round in Scandinavia, it is not quite as common in this part of the world, and (I know it seems silly but) I like the idea of matching a Scandinavian round with a Scandinavian rifle.
What are your thoughts on the performance of the 6.5x55 Swedish and perhaps your experiences and pros and cons.
THANKS!
(Aside from the Tikka, I'd really love to get my hands on a Sako 85 Bavarian in either 7mm rem mag, or .300 win mag)
