AIA improved Enfields

You want to post this in the Milsurp section. But to answer your question, everything that I read about them is all good. Accurate, and reliable, and really nice to shoot as well. Only downside people have to them is they are really heavy compared to a standard No.4 in .303.

Wolverine Supply also got a small shipment of the 7.62x39 models in, so if your qiick you could take advantage of the cheap surplus. But these are not the same configuration as the No.4 Mk4, they look more like the old jungle carbines.

EDIT: Sorry, It was Wolverine that has the 7.62x39 rifles, not Marstar, It was fixed.
 
I have one of the 7.62X51 AIA's...the B-1 sporterized version I believe it's called....Excellent firearm....I find it very accurate for the length of barrel on the sport model....groups an inch at 100 yards ( using a bench rest...I am not THAT good of a shot )...that is...the rifle is capable of a good deal more accuracy than I can shoot...
It is quite heavy....the furniture is teak...if that's a concern....and it does recoil quite strongly...The action functions flawlessly , as you would expect from this type of rifle...I have only fired 150 gn. remington express core-loct...rifle seems to enjoy them..
To mount a scope properly you need a fair gunsmith or machinist to cut the picatinny rail back a bit...
Esthetically it is a BEAUTIFUL looking piece....and speaks with a resounding boom of authority....I haven't measured muzzle velocity , but I can tell you you wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a round fired from this rifle...

I have one for about 2 years, it is the sport model. It is a good rifle, fast action, accurate
bit on the heavy side but in an emergency it will make a wounderfull club
 
My M10 B2, will consistently shoot IVI, Hirtenberger and South African surplus 7.62x51 into sub 1/2 inch groups. Each brand, has its own POI but as long as the ammo is the same, it shoots a nice ragged hole, a half inch or less across.

I have AIA B1 Sport and I love it. My only problem is that the mag becomes loose after 3rd or 4th shot and slides lower a bit to the point that the bolt doesn't catch the next round. Not sure what it is, I only fired 60 rounds so perhaps the parts need to break in. I push the mag hard in until it clicks so it is not me not placing the mag in the well securely enough.
It shoots really nice. I prefer to shoot is off hand as it is somehow it less painful. Because of the rifle's heft, it shoots very well off hand. I ditched the NC Star scope and put a nice Bushnell Legend on her. The scope mounts pretty high on the receiver so even the raised cheek rest doesn't help much so ultimately, your cheek doesn't rest comfortably on the butt stock. Overall I love the rifle, I love its looks, the smooth action and how she feels in my hands. This is definitely a keeper.
 
I bought one when they first became available - very first purchase I made from Marstar. IIRC it was John himself I dealt with, super guy, answered all my questions...In retrospect I should have bought one of the nice matching R/C k98s they were pushing @ the time and a couple thousand rounds of 8mm. ;)

Nice fit & finish, durable & even Parkerizing, shoots .308, Heavy. The Weaver scope rail and the cheek riser were great adds. Good cheek weld with my big mellon. A really accurate rifle on the bench. I put a couple hundred rounds down the pipe and then sold it. Not a military rifle, so not my thing.

They're like motorcycles and jet boats - they're neat but you've got to be commited to get your dollars worth. Otherwise you're just eating the initial depreciation for the next owner.

AIA Improved Enfields

I do like the looks of these guns, its pretty much what I had in mind when I set out to buy a nice Milsurp. I love the Lee Enfield design and the fact that these are chambered for 7.62x51 is a major bonus, I dont want to look for .303 brittish.

My only question is where are these rifles made? I know the company is called Australian International Arms but I have read articles online about them being made somewhere in Asia, like Vietnam or China or something like that. Anybody have any idea? Thanks
 
If you check the AIA website, they explain that the various parts are obtained from a variety of sources. This has nothing to do with quality. Final assembly is done in Australia.

I must say, a rifle that will shoot sub 1/2" groups - presumably at 100y - with IVI ball is not only a good shooting rifle, but is a miracle worker.
 
Stocks are form Vietnam, at least the wood. I have one the sporter model I love it, fast action and will shoot 1moa with quality ammo.

There is few negative opinions on the web about them, if you look carefully all are from The States. "American Propaganda" nothing else, they can't get them there.
Buy one till Marstar has them. With Australian gun laws AIA might not make them for long time
 
I went out one day last year with bearhunter and shot his. Great gun and I know someone published a pretty negative review on them and I am sure never even handled one so how that could happen is beyond me.

They are a great gun, heavy but I bet will last a lifetime of normal wear.
