ncstar sks trimount receiver with rail

If this is in the wrong section please do move it. I wasn't sure where to post but I wanted to give y'all a heads-up not to buy this thing.

I purchased on of these from http://www.crosshairs.ca/product/NcSTAR_SKS_Tatical_Scope_Mount_%28no.%29MTSKS.html


It is such a piece of crap. First, I had to file it down a fair bit to get it to fit. Then I couldn't figure out why the heck the pin wouldn't go through the hole. Then I figured out why: Because the hole set for it is 1)set-off from where it should be and 2)not properly machined such that it is not cylindrical and has various imperfections and outcroppings that prevent the pin from moving through it.

I am going to have to try to do some machine work to get it to fit. I am rather disappointed. I emailed the place I bought it from and informed them that I am less than impressed.

Just by looking at it you can tell this isn't the right way to mount any kind of optics or sights. On the other hand now we know that the workmanship is also crap, matching the (crappy)design perfectly. To the OP : Sorry to hear you wasted your money , but thanks for letting everyone else know.:(

Wait and Ki11ercane will be along to tell you how good NC star products are!

You can get a gas tube replacement with a rail that is pretty tight, but drilling and tapping the reciever is really the only way to go, unless you just want a red dot on a scout mount!

Both options will cost you more than the gun is worth though!

I stick to iron sights!

hey man, long time no speak. Ya, I saw it, saw the price was decent, figured it looked 'okay' and took a chance. Oh well. Now I know better.
 
SKS Scope Mount

I thought that the Choate receiver-mounted bracket would be the best type of mount.
I bought one a while ago to put on a Chinese SKS. I haven't tried it yet , but it looks like it should hold zero and be a very sturdy piece of kit. Are they still available?

I have to disagree with you about the work involved in making your own drill and tap scope mount. I posted a thread a while ago about exactly that, and depending on your skill level (and maybe some friends), it's not a big deal. Sure it takes a little time, but the end result is worth it. If you have the tools and basic know-how, it's actually pretty easy. If you want, check out mine.

You can always do what Globe Firearms did back in the day with receiver cover mounts on SVT-based rifles; weld the cover on.;)

Horrid idea, you must have to grind off the welds to clean the bolt. f:P:2:

I bought a tri rail for my SKS thinking I was going to look like a big shot. Turns out I look like a tard when I couldn't even sight it in because it moves every shot. That was after I spent 5 hours grinding it down to make it fit. So for me its iron sights :bangHead:

can you drill into the receiver through those 4 screw attachments on the tri rail mount and screw the cover in?? pain in the ass for cleaning, but might make it stable enough
