6 point buck.

Broadside...........65 yards.

Almost perfect shot........(I was on a ridge so about 20 feet higher.)

BLAM!!

Total miss!!

WTF!

Then I look down at my rear sight and note that it is about 3/4 inch to the right!!!!

I had banged it earlier in the day but thought nothing of it!!

DAMN PERFECT SHOT!!!

The buck just looked at me snidely and trotted away..........

But now I am borrowing my buddies gun with double set trigger.......I will have my revenge!!

(oh and now I can order those fiber sites I wanted)>

Happens to every one with any experience. For me this year I had a very very nice 4X4 at a long distance. I practiced all summer for this chance. I ranged him with my range finder, took a solid rest, squeezed and shot perfectly. One problem I missed. Next day I found out my range finder was off by around 75 yards.

Anyone who says they never miss is full of sh*t or just havn't shot or shot at many deer.

Keep on hunting. If we got one every time it would be just a chore to get done. All of this makes the ones we get taste all the better.

Were you shooting a bow because 75 yards should't make a real difference with a gun, a drop of an inch or two you should still be good.

With a shot over 375 yards being 75 yards off does make a difference. Combine the extra drop with the wrong hold over and that translates to a clean miss. An error like this will easily produce a 15 - 20 inch difference with the load I am using. I load for accuracy and not speed.

Or maybe I just f**ed up:D

For Christsake!!

Did I kill babies in a past life or something!!

KARMA IS KILLING ME!

Today with my gun out of action with a broken rear site I was back at it wtih my friends.

On a small drive I had an 8 point buck stop 35 yard away and MISSFIRE!!!

DAMN!!!

It's a wonder our ancestors didn't starve eh?
That's one of the things that's great about hunting, there are no guarantees. The 'perfect' shot, isn't always. No matter how much prep you do.

Remember the story you told us last nite about two gentlemen at your door and freezing rain and 45 minutes....yeah I guess karma is coming back to bite your arse.:p

btw, that does suck, two missed chances!! Good luck for the rest of the week, hopefully you'll get some payback yet.

I dropped my gun the first day of rifle season guess my rings weren't quite tight and I guess my scope moved a touch but it was a light drop so I thought nothing of it at the time.

20min on stand and a nice 6pt came out 30yds away at an apple tree perfect shot same as you described just stood and looked at me. I tried again and he just walked off into the woods. I thought I hit him for sure but in all the hoopla I didn't notice a SMASHING Buck in my food plot about 200yds away he was eating like nothing was up.

I was hunting with my buddy and we agreed if you can fill both tags do it. So I extend my bi-pod and get settled right on his shoulder BOOM he looks up but goes back to eating.....WTF racked the action BOOM.....nothing ok one more time BOOM and he finally trots off.....

I was so mad I nearly smashed my rifle against the side of my tower blind but I calmed down a bit and checked for blood just in case but I found nothing. I headed over to the range the next day and the gun was WAY off at 30yds HUGE like 6ft high and a few ft right.......needless to say I missed by a mile at 200yds...

That was Nov 1st and I haven't seen antlers since! I have pretty much given up for this year every time I get a chance to go out something comes up or the weather is miserable with high winds and rain. The only respectible bucks I'm catching on camera are only out between 10pm-4am and I have no Anterless tag to fill.

Wow makes me feel a little better about my miss, on a doe about 70-75 yards away, on the first day of our shotgun hunt!

Iron sights on a Mossberg 12 guage and she was moving not fast but it was my first shot ever at a deer! LOL

My group got 2 does today though, but it was a buddy getting lucky as I pushed em right into him, and he got both at no more than 25m!

Ok my day turned around!

Borrowed a double barrel .50 to block while my son helped us on a push.

I GOT A DOUBLE!!!

But............with only one shot!

A button buck and a yearling WITH A SINGLE SHOT!

Minutes later my friend Tom took the third one from that group and we filled all our tags!

I missed an easy shot (75m) on a doe with an iron sighted BLR 308 Win and my bud missed a 50m shot on a big buck at 50m with my scoped .308 Match Grade Rifle. Needless to say I feel a lot better about my miss then he does about his.
