Specific course for IDPA?

I think Edmonton Garrison has a shooting club too - but not sure what they do for shooting events.

Yeah, they do. I just don't want to spend my off time from work, back at work. I'll be in touch with Spruce Grove though. Do they host IDPA?

Meh. I'll do the 3 gun there.

Thanks a bunch guys,

have had some good follow on PM's, and I've got a plan nailed down.

Also just had a wrench thrown into my plan today. Could be back in Afghanistan sooner rather than later.:ar15:

IPSC only accepts BB. All others accept most other training certifications.
(PPC, IDPAO, BB, CDP, etc...)
CDP is a 1.5 day course geared to defensive pistol shooting. Originally for CSSA's CDP (which is pretty much dead IMHO).
My course usually goes through 360-400 rounds in that timeframe (assuming 10 round mags).
Some of the stuff covered:
Draw from and reholster firearm, reloading techniques, turning, shooting on the move, use of various forms of cover, engagement order, transitioning firearms, etc...

I thought this course was dead as a dodo.

IMO, the rules and tactics behind IDPA can be learned in 1-2 matches or simply by reading the rule book. It's very easy to pickup.

 I received honours through high school and college but it took me a few years to finally feel comfortable that I am doing everything right shooting any course of fire in IDPA. :p Thanks for making me feel slow! :stirthepot2:

Even after years, we still mess up technical stuff occasionally. Myself. I seem to shoot 1 in 10 "No-Shoots" purely by accident.... Really.... Only 1 in 10... Just ask Acrashb... OK maybe not him... :)

lol - I screw up all of the time as far as the rules go ... reminds me of the limited vickers count at the frontenac match *toilet stage*, I think he was supposed to get 2 shots but I put 10 rounds into him :welcome:

That was actually the first match since joining IDPA that I did remember every rule and didn't have any butterflies. :p Only took a couple of years. Hopefully now I can start classifying higher.

Shrug. Our indoor range has been snookered since May.... I haven't taught since May because of that only... I have many @ my club who want to take the course.

I have the instructors course too, but you can no longer get the cssa card stating you've taken the course. I still use it as the curiculum for teaching newcomers but i don't say it's a cssa course anymore.

Whoa...I'm not saying you'll be good after 1-2 matches...I'm just saying you'll understand how IDPA works, scoring, reloads, movement, etc.

It takes a lot of bullets downrange to start getting to decent scores.

And when you get REALLY REALLY good you can do flying tackles at the low cover barrels with the grace and poise i exhibit!

(think pregnent hippopotumus bodyslaming a garbage can, but i did keep the muzzle down range thru the whole trip and fall at speed and finshed the stage prone.)

Nothing will ever top the pop-can-grenade-in-the-cockpit. Followed by bullets in case of survivors.

ROFL i'd forgot about that one.

I think my favorite was when a certian cigar smoking idividual pushed over the hostile no shoot (heavy bag) after butting the cigar out in it's forhead and put the boots to it when the buzzer went. That was funny enough, but when the ro joined in the rest of the squad kinda lost it....it was worth the extra 10 seconds on the stage time.

Can anyone tell me if there are IDPA events in the Petawawa-Ottawa (Ontario) area? A few co-workers including myself would like to try it out.

Thanks

What the hell is this, and how does it differ from the Black Badge course?

This is starting to feel like the gun world version of PADI, SSI, SDI etc.

Are these all proprietary?

PADI all the way! their is no other.
CDP is a bad rip off of idpa that a canadian came up with to line his pockets, some of us fell for it some of us did not.... i did...:stirthepot2:

If your looking for more then just the basic holster and rules class.
Earl @ one shot tactical can teach a 1 day idpa skills class , if you can ge ta bunch of people togeather.
Would be money well spent.

I have not taken the course from Earl, but I think it would be money well spent. Earl is a nice guy, great shooter, and has a good sense of humor.:stirthepot2:
