I like the features and plan to look through one if I can get to P&D when Iam in edmonton training but are they worth the money?

I have always been a Leupold fan, but my Handler treated me to a Swarovski for our anniversary. I now want to get rid of all my Leupolds and replace them with Swarovski.

I had a Swaro 8x56 for a few years. Look up what it's worth. It was worth every penny, and unless you've tried such a scope you can't really fathom it. When you look at a tree you can see the individual needles or leaves, no matter how fine. The clarity and definition is beyond compare. The light gathering was fantastic. I finally sold it simply because I hunt hard and I couldn't justify beating up such an expensive piece of equipment. I sold it on eBay to a guy in Texas. With the money I got for it I bought a new Zeiss and a laptop computer...

Swarovski

I'm running a Swarovski on my Mark V and it's the sharpest scope I've ever looked through. Having said that, Leopold scopes have served me well in the past and we may notice those little differences as out eyes age.

When it comes to optics, you quite often get exactly what you pay for.

It follows then that sometimes you don`t.

As to the original question, are the Swarovski optics worth it, the answer is subjective. It depends how hard it is for the individual to come by that amount of money, and whether they really need that level of quality. Most of what most of us do can be done perfectly well with optics cheaper than Swarovski.

They would need to be outstanding considering the price tag. Us mere mortals are served well enough with Leupold.

I started hunting with Bushnell scopes many years ago, then upgraded to Leupold, then later upgraded to a combination of Zeiss, Swarovski, and Kahles.Once you have actually used the various brands, you will see the differences.Whether or not those differences are worth the price, is up to you.

I don't waste my money smoking, or gambling, but I do appreciate high quality optics.Yet people that I know, that spend thousands of dollars per year smoking, or gambling or both, think that I am the one throwing away my money.

I think highend optics are great, I use Leica Ultravid binoculars and they are great, but like most things the law of Diminishing returns applies to optics as well.

There was a huge difference between the Bushnells($&%) I started with when I bought my first decent set of Pentax HR's($300), then a significant difference between the Pentax Hr's and the SP's I spent $400 more on($700) and then there was another level of pureness when I bought the then top of the line Leica's for $1700.

It's like a car, a camaro cost $50k, a corvette is $90k, a porsche is $150k and a Ferrari is $300k. Noone compares a camaro to a ferrari, but they do compare each level the one immediately above it and below it, optics are the same.

Buy as good as you can afford and justify to yourself, to me a nice balance point on a hunting rifle is the zeiss Cconquest.
