Loading for a Rem 7600 in 30-06

I am going to start working up a load for my brothers 7600 in 30-06 and the guy at WSS told me to "stay far away" from the max loads in these guns as they are very weak actions. Is there any truth to this? Sorry is this is the wrong area to post this. Thanks

No, they are not a "very weak action." They have met the standards of the SSAMI, plus Remington gave them a window of safety, above that.
Bolt action rifles have much better camming power to get the empty out of the chamber, than do other actions. The clerk at the store was telling you to load light, in order to keep a cartridge from sticking in the chamber, making it hard to get out.
This is why I, personally, have never encouraged people to start their reloading career, loading for auto or pump action rifles that used a high pressure cartridge.
OK, start screaming at me of how you have reloaded for your pump for 76 years and never had a problem. I said, I was stating my personal opinion.
 
Keep in mind these guns will reliably digest factory ammo day in day out. Stick to the program and don't load above that pressure level . You will be fine. Also full length re-size your cases every time. It gives an advantage to the rifle's extraction rather than having a skin tight fit. Your brass may not last as long but you will shoot happy. Just be careful not too set the shoulder of the case back too far.
 
Same here. I have loaded for 3 different 7600s and had no issues with running up to max loads in 3O8 or 30-06 with most load development done in july/august months. However, having said that, most loads had best accuracy at 2-3 grains below max so that is where I run my hunting loads. Sizing is very important but chamber cleanliness is too. All good points in the above posts too.

Therein lies the problem.
The last time I went there, I was with my brother enquiring about a save model 12 in .223. The counter person proceeded to inform me that I should not buy a rifle in .223 as the canadian military just switched to .223 and will be using all available ammo for the war in iraq:slap:
I would take any advice from a WSS employee with a grain of salt.
