i have posted in gunsmithing and other areas .

first off .............i will not bubba -fize a good or collector grade gun .......

but i would love to own an AFFORDABLE luger ........9mm.

i am researching the idea to get a non -prohib lenth barrel and to alter a non matching luger, or restore say a parts gun for my own shooting /pleasure .
is a price of 300 to say 500$ for a parts /project gun possible ?

any source ?
possible costs? red tape involved ?
any ideas on doing this or comments from those who have done this ??

no rush ..no worry on time .......but cost would be the big factor since im not independantly wealthy........
thanks !!

Your best bet would be to look for one of the ex- East german Police VOPO Lugers. A lot of them came in at one point in time. They are all re-works with new barrels and/or some non-matching pieces and the distinctive plastic "bullseye" grips. They are considered shooters and do not command a premium collector's price.

ok are they re-barrelled to restricted lenth ?? any source to buy from for these east german re works ??
thanks for all info.....

They are the standard length bbl ,12(6). They were on the market in both the 1960s and 1980s, so quite a few should still be in circulation. I bought 5 of them from Lever's in the mid-80s.

I am getting a previously prohibited 1914 Luger now registered as a restricted one with a new barrel. Luger was re-blued to have the new barrel match and the parts re-strawed in color and she looks damn good now.. She is a bit of a mis-match but all parts are Imperial German origin. She has also been successfully test fired.

I should have her in a week and will post some pictures if you are interested.

Price, with gun smithing work and shipping included, was very attractive compared to other restricted Lugers out there.

good question ..............from the pms ive recieved any were from 350 to 500 is the ball park for miss matched lugers ..........or so ive been told today !

FWIW, a VOPO Luger (4 inch barrel) in 1991 was $425.00. Matching, Mint. 1920 Commercial.

Century out of Montreal was selling Lugers too about that time in their Catalog,
matching was double the price of mismatched back then. Will have to look for it and post it.
Don't know if they were Vopo or other?
