I have an over under and a Winchester model 12
i'd like to sell the over under and use the funds to get an 870 to try my hand at modifying it but i'm also exploring the idea of tac-ing up the model 12. Is this a doable proposition and if so how would some of the more professional or knowledgeable CGNer'z go about it.
 
yea it is a great gun, not many options

well i was thinking about getting an extension for the mag. having the barrel shortened. plus i'd like to get a heat shield, flash light and was thinking about a folding or shortened stock but cant really find any options or getting a replacement stock and cutting it down to see how that works but having the option to go back to the original if i dont like it

theres really not much out there for adding to the classic
 
I had my model 1200 cut down, new bead sight installed, bought an extended mag tube, synthetic fore end and pistol grip locally and in a day had what it sounds like you're doing.

Is parts availability a problem?

wrathchild you have any pics of it?
yea parts availability seems to be the thing holding me back or thinking that it would just be easier with the 870
cant seem to find any model 12 parts like pistol grip or folding stock online (no real local option other than toronto)
i guess any flashlight mount or barrel cover would be generic and fit almost any shotgun?

So how do you put an extended mag tube on a shotgun that has the takedown pin running transversely thru the end of the magazine tube as it currently exists??? I think the idea is an epic fail. Pics or it didn't happen...

i'd like to see wrathchilds gun cause it sounds similar to what i would have liked to have done but i have found a local who has an 870 that he's fixed up (not how i would like - synthetic camo stock) i think i'll get off him and rebuild

Agree. I have no idea how you are suppose to get an extension without massive modifications.

It already carriers 7+1, how many rounds do you need? I would just get a leather butt cuff and be done with it.

Both of mine (12 and 20) hold 6 + 1 - are you sure you're not confusing it with the 1200 Defender?? If so, it's not the same gun...
 
No, I may have miscounted last time I played with one. On of my buddy's dad has 2 12ga. I remember him asking if I got 7 in there when we went out the back 40 to play with them. Either way, plenty more capacity vs 870 and 500 in stock form.
