norinco 1911a1 vs the compact version

Buying my first 1911. I've decided to go with norinco for price. Want to know the pros and cons of going with the compact instead of standard. Thanks for any input as I'm new to handguning

Other then the slide and barrel its exactly the same... Short officer was made to be concealed I guess... I like 5'' or 6'' longslides

1911s generally work best as 5", single stack, .45 ACP guns. The longer sight radius and decreased muzzle flip will also make for a gun that is easier to shoot well.

Even if carry was an option, I would still choose a 5" gun, given that the compact 1911s are more prone to function problems. If I wanted something smaller than a 5" 1911, I would choose a different platform.

4.25" commander is not really considered a problem prone compact officers model.

The commanders are just as reliable as the full length models it's just personal choice on the look and the feel.

... its exactly the same...

While I prefer the 4 1/4" version over the 5" version, you should also be aware that - in Canada - .22 rimfire conversion kits are much easier to find for the longer, 5" version.

Pretty much boils down to personal preference. I've owned a few different full size Norc 1911's and also a couple different compacts. In general, for 1911's I prefer the full length, 5" barrel models. Although, my current Norc compact shoots like a house on fire. BTW, I do like Norcs & I have yet to have a 'lemon' amongst the ones I've owned.

Accessories for the 5" version are easier to find. I love the pointability of my 5" 1911 9mm single stack STI Spartan. It's just a natural. Shoots way better than I can hold it; like a laser beam.

1911 pistols are addictive. Spare parts galore! Easy to tweak parts in and out, therefore allowing you to customize your shooter into YOUR shooter!

From what i have researched ( im looking into a norc 1911 to) the compact and the standard are both the same except for barrel and slide length.

I can not tell you if the compact is more prone to issues, because i don't know. But i will say i like how the full size looks rather than the compact.

Since we cant ccw in canada ( damn you WENDY), i don't really look at compact guns. What the point it's not like were going to need to conceal our guns.

It's basically up to preference in the end. If you like the longer heavier full size than get that or if you like the shorter less heavy, compact than get that.

Either one you get the price is around the same.
