Can someone tell me if either of these rifles are:

a) allowed in Canada legally

b) able to be imported by Canadian licenced Norinco dealers

* Aside from magazine capacity, I have a feeling they are legal (maybe not the semi-auto 12.7mm/.50cal), but just want some better input...

** The SVD comes in 7.62x51 & 54mm...

The SVD is prohibited its a AK variant no way its getting in.. but i dont see why you cant import that bolt action rifle should be no problem..

One prohib by name...Other is a .50 cal but I dont see that makeing it in

you want a .50 your options are slim here in canada and at a price tag of 5 grand and up :)

Its so sad that a semiautomatic rifle such as the SVD Dragunov is prohibited from public access because its linked to another rifle of a completely different nature. I'm sure the SVD is no more better at what it does than a nicely set up M-14, which is non-res. Why do scared braindead people get to make the laws?

Why would the .50 not make it in? The problem with getting .50BMG stuff up here is US export restrictions, not Canadian import restrictions.

My SVD wasn't a very remarkable shooter until I got a hold of some Soviet issue sniper rounds, as well as doing some basic reloads. The change was night and day.....pretty good for a non-customized mass produced rifle!

Actually it only looks like a variant. NONE of the mechanism parts are interchangeable. But looks like was good enough for Canadian law makers. There is a SVD variant made in Cz. That does use a AK direct action gas piston however. But on the original SVD's the mechanics were redesigned from standard AK mechanics. The big x54R produces much more pressure than the x39 so a short stroke gas piston(that I believe may also be cantilevered) was used to reduce cyclic inertia, making the gun more stable and thus suitable for sniping.
