You'd better settle down for a minute to clearly define what your needs are and what exactly you want to do with this rifle. You're all over the board on this. A hunting rifle doesn't make a good target rifle and vice versa. You've got "buck fever" here, and I'm not talking about the animal with pointy horns variety.

I don't think any of the rifles you mentioned except for the Stevens 200 deserves a fate like that. At least with this combo, if you lost it in the woods nobody would care. Honestly, it isn't much of a scope but at least it'll get you started with something.

A one piece EGW brand 0 MOA scope mount and Burris Signature Series Z rings with inserts would be a minimum recommendation for the Remington 700.

Possibly the worst advice given in this thread so far. If $300 is going to make or break it for you, then I would suggest you not buy anything at all and save your money until you have enough to buy quality gear.
 
Ok. Not hunting. Just want to shoot 200-300 and actually hit something unlike the 20 foot bullet drop on my 858. Why is a 12x scope not good enough for that? Want to use .223 as I already have a CQ so I don't have to stock another caliber as I don't reload. So I am down to the Rem 700 SPS or the Tikka t3 Lite. Don't like fat chicks either.

First I need to figure out what to buy to mount my scope, as I said I have no clue what I am doing, this is my first rifle of this type, suggestions? links? Have a trophy 4x12x40AO ( I know its not great but its what I can afford). Do I just buy rings or what?

I got the same rifle with the 1 in 9 and I am happy with it. I only added a Harris Bipod and a mid priced 4-12 X40 Bushnell scope. I plan to use it for Coyotes this winter and reconsider my scope options later.

I use picatinny rails and TPS rings half the price of your gun....any gunshop will carry rings..that are cheaper. bring your gun and scope in...

For decent quality glass in the Bushnell line, consider the 3200 Series to be the base minimum you should look at buying. There are a considerable number of guys here (myself included) who have had very decent results using the 3200 10x Mildot scope. For your budget, it is hard to beat.

Looking at other brands such as the Falcon Menace line, would be worth the effort, albiet more money yet again. Although, not significantly so.

Regardless of which rifle or scope you buy, do not scrimp on saving a few pennies by buying inferrior rings & bases that are of poor design and build quality. Buy once, cry once.

The Tikka is a fine rifle, though I personally would have opted for the heavy barrelled option with the 1/8" twist if it was my choice.
 
what about Vortex crossfire? I love my Vortex red dot...

One thing I have heard (from someone sponsored by Vortex) is that their Canadian warranty department is severely backordered honouring their Lifetime gaurantee to the tune of 4-6 months. Its good that they are honouring the warranty but if you need your scope is a few months too long to wait?
Maybew pony up a little more cash and not need the warranty?!
 
I was told that you can walk in to any dealer and get an instant replacement and that's half the reason why I would buy one..

That could be true.
I have a pair of Vortex Hurricanes 8x28. Great little compact bino. I dropped them onto a concrete floor and dinged up one of the eye-peices. My fault totally. What I did was send them of to the address on the box they came in. I didn't call at first but about a week after I mailed them. They gave me an order # and told me they would repair them and send them back soon after arrival. I got them back about 3 weks later.
The address on the box was in N.H. USA.
No charge to me.
The fellow I know sponsored by them tells me they have a Canadian address for waranty and are waaay behind.
My experience was positive.
 
I just don't see anything around that 250 range with this type of magnification and I know my Strikefire has been awesome with zero issues..

I love Millett. They have similar magnification and are truly excellent in my opinion. They are what I usually use on .22LRs. They aren't the greatest scopes out there, but for cheapos, atleast they don't #### the bed at 12x.
