I would like to know if I used a Kimber Custom II Target in .45 cal. and the exact same gun in 9 mm at 25 yds. which would be more accurate using factory ammo? I had 3 .45's but never a 9mm and I was thinking of getting the 9mm this time. I will only be shooting paper. Thanks.

Benson.

For my money, if you want to shoot 9mm get a Glock 17.

If you're going to shoot a 1911, don't puss out - get the .45.

BUT, that's just me. :)

It has to be said that the 9mm 1911 will be an exceptionally controllable gun, and will reap all the benefits of the excellent 1911 trigger mechanism. Not to mention the cost of ammo, where 9mm wins hands-down...

I still love my Kimber SIS in .45 though!

Get both! I did and I'm not turning back. Save your pennies, quite smoking and/or drinking and you will save up enough in no time at all!

They're both fun. The real cost to firearms, isn't buying the firearm. The real cost is feeding it. If your pennies are pinched, go for the 9mm.

Well, to answer the OP's actual question, I shoot my .45 more accurately when I'm not under any timed pressure but I'm sure in IDPA/IPSC you'll shoot better with the 9mm.

If I'm just standing at the range shooting paper, I'm better with my .45.

Honestly the 9mm entry 1911's are higher cost to buy the gun then an entry 45 ACP. For the first couple thousand the price really is even because of the cost of buying the pistol. Once you go past the couple thousand rounds the price is abit cheaper for the 9mm because of the ammo cost. so really depends on what you want to buy.

The 45 ACP has alot more guns to pick from, as most manufacturers only have one or two 9, 38, and 40 calibers. (not all but most)

Really its a toss up on what to buy.

Heads a 9mm Tails a 45 ACP

Hello Benson

The 9mm will be easier to shoot less recoil and is as accurate. I shoot bullseye at 25 yds
with both my STI 9mm and my STI 45 ACP. As I reload I down load to 3.5grs Bullseye 147 gr lead bullet for the 9 mm and 4.0grs Bullseye 200 gr lead SWC for the 45. Better shooting less recoil and stress on the pistol and is accurate. You really do not need factory loads to cut paper.

Regards

I've shot both and didn't find that one shoots any tighter than the other. But by that time it's more about the shooter than the gun. So either caliber will shoot great.

Although I got to shoot a really high end STI bull barrel highly accurate gun and it shocked me by producing a group that was just over half the size of any group that I can normally manage. But as this was only one magazine it may have just been some good luck combined with a superb trigger.

ergonomically speaking the 1911 is hard to beat. the extra weight helps with recoil especially in 9mm. got a chance to shoot one a while back and it was a treat!!

I had a dream the other day I wanted to get an NP29 which is weird because I think 1911in 9mm is just weird! .45 or 10mm is the way to go! plenty of other guns in 9mm ;)
