does anyone own one?
how is it? is it just a stevens with det mag or is it better quality?
is it worth investing (I know, its still cheap)
been looking for a varmin caliber rifle for some time but being broke most of the time couldnt be too serious about it, this price though is appealing
pix would be apriciated as well

Had one in .223. Sold it, not because I didn't like it, but to afford another purchase. Great little rifle and I could see myself buying another in the future. Shot small groups with cheap ammo.

Friend bought one of the combo's with the scope. He didnot like the scope and changed it but likes the gun. Shoots well he says and worth the money.
Once I get some extra cash I hope to buy one.

I recently bought one in 223 rem. I had a few issues to start, but it was not the rifle but differences in ammo. Right now with 60 gr Vmax handloads I group under 1 inch at 100 yds. Once I finish tuning my loads I'm sure it is capable of better. For now I'll use these loads for coyote this winter and tune it up in the spring when the weather is warmer. Great rifle for the price.

Bought one combo in 308 for my son's first rifle. Great little shooter, very light to carry around. Bolt is tight, to be expected for the price and the mag release is molded plastic, something to keep in mind. For an extra $100 I would recommend the Savage Model 111 FXP package.

I don't wanna hijack this thread but I was also considering this rifle. Would it be a bad idea to get the 22-250? I've heard if you don't have a heavy barrel its probably not a wise choice for 22-250

I chose 223 because of faster twist 1-9 for heavier bullets, noise is also a factor in my area. Brass easy to find etc. One more reason, I always wanted one.

Bought one this summer for the kids in 223 shoots hole in a hole with just about any thing we stuffed in it.I have rifles that I payed more for the scope mount than the whole cost of the edge package taxes in that dont shoot as good.

I haven't shot one but I expect it would shoot resonably well. However while they are still available I would take a Stevens 200 instead. The Stevens is a standard rifle that has been "cheapened" down with a simple trigger and economy stock to bring it to a lower price point. The Stevens 200 is like comparing a Remington 870 Express to a 870 Wingmaster. Same gun just less expensive finish and stock furniture. The Axis-new name for the Edge is more comparable to the Remington 710-770 line of rifles. I have handled the Axis and it is not just less expensive it is cheap. At that price point it is a good buy but you won't confuse it with a regular Savage/Stevens rifle once you pick it up and try working the bolt. My opinion anyway.

I own one in .308 and I've shot it a bit. In this price range you won't get a more accurate rifle IMO. This gun is cheaply made and not a fine piece of shooting gear to be sure, but on the wet snowy days of the deer hunt this fall this was my gun of choice.

On paper it groups extremely well (with hand loads), and I expect it would do the same with factory, right out of the box. The Bushnell scope that came with the gun is very good so far and has optics equivalent to more expensive scopes I own. No problem with the Bushnell scopes on these packages, but the same cannot be said about the Simmons scopes on other 'packages' according to the reviews I have read here on CGN and elsewhere.

An interesting quirk of the Edge is the fact the bolt sometimes tries to open on its own due to the way the firing pin spring is configured in the bolt body and the way the cocking piece rides up on the sear mechanism. Not to belabour this point, but this is a sure sign of a cheap gun, poorly engineered, made with stamped parts. Having said this, I do really like the gun and will be keeping it since it is a very accurate and, so far, reliable gun.

The triggers are not so nice out of the box either, but I have tuned mine to near perfection. Do not mess with any trigger unless you are willing to void the warranty and possibly render your rifle unsafe to operate. Always use a good gunsmith in this regard. Don't do as I do, do as I say.

May sound like I'm flaming Savage here, but I would buy another one in heartbeat. If only I needed one...

My brother has one in .270 and he shot a deer in the eye with it about 125 yards, so i'd say there a good gun for the price he loves it :p

I got a .223 just last week and It shot very well 3 shots in .68" and 5 shots in 1.3" I think the trigger which was quite heavy, negatively affected the true potential of the gun. I played with the trigger a little but haven't had a chance to try it since. The Stock fit is better the the Stevens in my IMO though it is very narrow in in the grip area. The detach mag is more convenient than the blind box on the stevens. I found that loading the mag was awkward for the .223. It looks like there is a spacer at the back of the mag wich puts the follower spring farther back and not centered under the cartridge so rounds tended to tip forward as I was loading but it is not enough to curb my enthusiam for this little package. I love my new edge and I highly recomend it to those, like my self, that want a good shooting rifle and not have to sell off body parts to get it.

Either your brother is an idiot or he is a terrible shot. If you're aiming for the head then your an idiot. If you missed the lungs and hit the eye either your a terrible shot or the gun is the most innacurate in the world
