Just shot my First Coyote of the year. I was sitting here reading posts and my wife says "There are 2 coyotes at your bait" I run down stairs and grab the 22-250 and run back up stairs and out on the back deck. They're still there enjoying the nose of a moose head so I hit the first one and take a poke at the second but its moving supersonic and now is across the field so its alive to play another day. Going to finish my coffee and go see how the 55 g TSXs performed. It did dropit in its tracks so happy with that!

Dude! POST PICS!!! (Glad you got the one, doubt the second will be back after the "education"...)

Cheers
Jay

Coyotes will keep coming to that bait pile. It takes a lot to educate a coyote and 1 shot isn't enough. I know a fellow who killed 65 coyotes from the same gut pile.

That second coyote will be back tonight. I shot 37 coyotes off the same pile last year. New coyotes will still come in with dead ones laying there. I posted picks on here last year of some of my dead coyotes being eaten by other coyotes. Food is food to them and they will keep coming.

Never seen a gut pile last loger than 48 hours here in southern Manitoba. Ravens, eagles and magpies clean them up pretty fast...often before dogs get the nerve to dine.

I do cut my own deer and put the ribs, spine, legs, hide, etc into a bananna box and freeze the whole lot into a block. Makes for splendid bait and it's heavy enough so that the yotes can't drag it into some cover.

M12: I think he was just leaving the dead coyotes there. As well, he is a rancher so every time an animal died or guts were made available he would add to the pile. Your point is correct it definitely wasn't the same gutpile.
