Just got a great deal at Sail (dumb name, good store) on a 30-06 Remington 700 BDL with sights. Looking to put see through sope rings on it and a scope. Can't seem to find low monts for the rifle to put the see through rigns on.
Also what scope would be good for this rifle shooting within 300yrds?

Thanks

I suggest that see through rings are a bad idea. A scope should be mounted as low as practically possible for best hunting uses. Take the sights off and mount the scope low.

I like Leupold scopes, and Zeiss Conquest scopes are very nice. Shooting and hunting within 300 yards will need low power as an options. I would think about a 2-7 power scope. As a starter, a Leupold VX-II is an inexpensive, good quality scope.

See through mounts have virtually disappeared because they were a poor invention in the first place. They place your scope too high to obtain a proper cheek position, which hurts accuracy, and can result in the comb slapping your cheek upon recoil.See through mounts are also either very heavy,or very flimsy because of the distance from the bore.I for one am glad to see that they have disappeared.

As far as scopes go,a low powered scope is quicker than open sights for an experienced shooter, especially in low light situations.
