Remington Model Seven

Why would you even bother? I have a Model 7 and have never seen the need for a detachable mag or wanted the extra weight.

I converted my Model 700 to a detachable and frankly do not see it as an advantage. Just another piece of kit to loose of forget in the truck after climbing into your stand.

Maybe his style of hunting requires loading and unloading the firearm frequently, maybe he doesn't like fumbling around loading 1 shell at a time into the firearm, maybe he doesn't like dealing with a handful of loose shells when it is freezing cold and getting dark and there is a foot of snow on the ground, maybe he finds it handy to have a nice little container for his shells and he just snaps it into the firearm!

I have hunted with detachable mag firearms for 30+ years and have never, never, never had a problem losing or forgetting one.

Now back to the topic, can anyone help him out? If there was a previous thread, does anyone have the link?

If you read my post I too have one in my Model 700. In a long action they are reasonably priced. In a short action they can run between 400-500 dollars. My point was the you really need to consider the cost.

If cost is not an issue then there are conversion kits for 700's. For Model 7's I have yet to find one. Everyone that I know who has converted to a mag has been a custom job and the price is $600.

So do you really want to spend the money?

Here are three links to threads where this has been discussed.

goose you realize that it will be almost as much as the original cost of your rifle to do this? and that even though you are using the mags in a bolt action you will be limited to 5 rounds as they were/are originally for a semi?
if so carry on
