Thinking about picking up one of these, playing around with it next spring and using it during next year's hunting season. Whose got one? Likes or dislikes? Advantages/disadvantages. Looking at one of Clay's Coopers.

I've had one that Rembo built for a couple of years. It likes Nosler brass,140ABs,and RL-22 and is easy to load for.I have a good 160gr AB load that I'll try this spring.I have a couple of other AIs and don't mind fireforming(all range time is good time!),but the Nosler brass has been just fine in my rifle. Mur

I have two Cooper Jackson Hunters in 280AI.I like the fact that my 140gr TTSX handloads will match or exceed factory 7mmremmag velocities, with less recoil.I now use the 280AI for all of my big game hunting.

I have one that was put together from a Mossberg 1500 action (might be the best trigger I have ever shot) and stock and a rechambered Rem SPS 7mm-08 barrel. Bought a set of new dies and 100pcs of Nosler brass. Had all the metal dura-coated this summer to a flat black. Planning on sending it to have it pillar and epoxy bedded this winter. When I get it back I will do some load development and hopefully it shoots well.

Wish I could find a detachable mag system for it, but no luck so far.

Mine is a 700 BDL SS that is re-chambered and it works very well.
Case life is excellent and like most Ackley-ized cartridges case trimming is at a minimum. I think it actually has slightly more muzzle velocity with most loads than a short-barreled 7mm Mag. I had years ago.

the detachable mag that Weatherby markets for the Vanguard will fit.
It's too bad Wtby didn't just revive the detachable mag that Howa built for the 1500 and 1700 Mossbergs and Smith & Wessons,...it was all metal. But when you have only the Tikka T3 to compete with why go with anything other than cheap plastic.

The 280AI?...it's pure magic...how else can a cartridge with about 10 grs less powder capacity run as fast or faster than the 7 Rem Mag...gotta be magic.

It's simply a case of the factory 7mmremmag loads being very mild.:D
With proper handloads, the 7mmremmag does hold an advantage.

With the one 24" 280AI that I played with a lot, reasonable handloads gave 3050 with 150's, 3160+ with 140's, and 3370 with 120's.

Plenty of velocity but it's no 7mag loaded to the same pressures. Not directed at you Stubble, just sayin.

The 280AI is a neat cartridge. Probably just as good as 270, 280 or 7mag! ;)

My own 280AIs produce 3140fps with the 140gr TTSX out of 24" barrels.

All sounds great to me! Just made a deal with Clay for the new Cooper .280AI. Going to be exciting to work up a load for that one, can't wait.

That'll be a nice one....you can get 280AI brass from Nosler...no fireforming...

I do plan to try a Cooper someday...maybe if I can move some of my old Model 70's and a few 700's outta here I'll have room for a Cooper.

By "room" you must mean cash:D Coopers cost as much as a few of each combined!
