... what parts of the firearm must be serialized ...Any specifics for; Revolvers? Long guns?
No. Look at the regulations and don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. For the antique letter they need a sn to put in the letter (if it has one) and maybe to identify date of manufacture on some models. There isn't any predetermined place the sn should be located, wherever the original manufacturer put it is ok.

... what steps must I take to ensure delivery when ordering an antique from the US?

Being able to prove the gun is an antique to the Customs people is the most important. But really there's no way to positively ensure delivery. Some examples:

1. Recently had a antique held in Canada customs for 5 almost weeks, and that was with the antique letter in the pkg. It has been released now and should be here very soon. No explanation for the delay.

2. Had another antique with RCMP letter in the pkg that was sent back to the seller after 2 weeks in customs. No explanation received. There is no way i know of to contact Canada customs postal stations to make enquiries. If there's a problem they will usually send you a letter, and then you can provide the information they request or otherwise act on it, but until you receive a letter there's not much you can do.

I've had more antiques that came straight thru customs than had problems, but it's not an exact science. Sometimes you come out good but there are disappointments occasionally too. Good luck.
