What have they done to improve the SX3 over the older models or are the early versions a better value? Anything new and improved for 2011?

All depends on what you are going to use it for???
Mostly hunting geese maybe turkey and some sporting clays 3 bird events.

Browning keeps changing auto designs every few years while Beretta improoves on a prooven system. Every single Browning auto after the Auto5, never worked for all types of shooting. The SX1 did not work. The SX2 worked part time and now the SX3, we will see in 2 to 4 years.
Meanwhile my 391 Optima Gold Sporting Beretta has not been cleanned since 2003. It shoots nearly a thousand dirty hunting loads each fall and a few hundred target loads during the winter. It only gets a few splashes of BreakFree to keep it running.
When I did a test report for The Clay Pigeon, over a good number of years on my 390 Gold Sporting, it only started to hickup November 13 2004 with 25,024rounds of NO cleanning and in that time 20 Failure to Feed.

Yup your right, the SX1 was made by Winchester and used many forged parts and thus became to expensive for Winchester to produce. The only 300 series of Beretta's that I have seen not to cycle properly, are those that are too clean and have not sufficient lubrication. The main culprit is the return spring. It is made of spring steel and sits in a chrome moly tube. The spring gets crude from powder residue but worst is if it gets wet. It rusts! Our club has some 35 loaner guns. The Berettas 300s all work when others stop. From the 390 on, one can shoot interchangeably light clay loads and heavy game loads.
